About Wally
If youâve ever wanted your own four-legged shadow, Wally might just be your boy.
Wally is a gentle, affectionate Aussie Velcro dog who loves nothing more than being close to his humans â preferably very close! Couch, backyard, kitchen or even the loo⊠if youâre there, Wally would quite like to be there too.
Heâs a sensitive soul who needs a little time, patience and consistency to feel safe. New people, unfamiliar dogs, loud noises and new environments can sometimes overwhelm him. But give him the space to work things out in his own time and, once youâve earned his trust, youâll discover an incredibly loving and devoted companion.
Wally bonds deeply with his person. Once he decides youâre his human, expect a loyal little shadow who wants to hang out with you, follow you around and nuzzle in for a good back scratch.
He can be cautious when meeting new people and prefers to approach when he feels ready. Thereâs no need to rush him â Wally does best when people respect his space and allow the friendship to develop naturally.
Heâs also a handy little doorbell and will happily let you know when someone has arrived!
Wally enjoys his walks, chasing a ball, destroying the occasional tennis ball, sunbaking and having a play with his humans.
Despite being a Heeler, heâs not a dog who needs to be on the go all day. Give him some exercise, a little training and plenty of human company and heâs very happy to settle down and relax.
Wally is a clever boy who has been receiving daily training with his foster carer and is responding beautifully.
He knows sit and drop, waits at corners before crossing roads, uses a doggy door and can wait politely for his food â although sometimes following his human around is apparently more important than actually eating it!
His loose-lead walking is still a work in progress, so his new family will need to continue his training with patience and consistency.
Wally had a frightening experience when he was severely attacked by another dog in his previous home, and understandably this has left him cautious around dogs.
He copes much better around calm, polite dogs, while fast-moving, excitable or overly enthusiastic dogs can overwhelm him and he can bark and get a bit upset
We feel based on his previous life he is best suited as an ONLY dog
Although Wally would happily spend every minute beside you, he doesnât need someone home 24/7.
After a morning walk, he can settle while his humans go to work and will be waiting for you to come home. He may bark briefly when you leave, but settles quickly.
This means Wally could suit either someone who works from home or a full-time worker who can give him exercise, training and quality time before and after work.
Wally thrives on calm, routine and predictability.
Loud noises, sudden movements and lots of unpredictable activity can be difficult for him, so weâre looking for a peaceful, adult-only home where his boundaries will be understood and respected.
At home, heâs generally a relaxed boy who enjoys lounging around, sunbaking and being near his favourite person â with the occasional zoomie thrown in for entertainment.
Wally takes his bathroom privacy very seriously!
He rarely toilets while walking or when everyone is watching. Instead, he likes some quiet time outside to take care of business in private.
So donât stand outside at bedtime staring at him and waiting â you may be there all night!
His foster carer simply gives him some peaceful outside time before bed and lets Wally do things his way.
During the day, Wally loves snoozing in his bed near the door or stretching out on the deck in the sunshine.
At night, he has learnt to sleep beautifully in his crate. Once tucked in, you wonât hear a peep unless something is genuinely wrong.
Wally happily jumps into the car because, of course, car = going somewhere with his humans!
He may be a little nervous initially, but once settled he enjoys watching the world through the window or stretching out across the back seat.
A morning walk, an afternoon training walk, some playtime and mental stimulation suit Wally beautifully.
Heâs active enough to enjoy getting out and about but doesnât require constant entertainment or hours of exercise every day.
Wally has previously experienced a reaction following a vaccination. His future vaccination needs should therefore be discussed with his veterinarian so an appropriate plan and monitoring can be put in place.
Wallys ideal home
Wally is looking for a calm, adult-only, pet-free home
A home in the country or a quite community , no inner city living will be considered as this will just overwhelm him
A home with a medium yard so he can laze around in the sun
Secure fencing
He needs someone who will give him continue his training and celebrate all those little wins as his confidence grows.
Give this beautiful boy the chance to feel safe and heâll give you something pretty special in return â unwavering loyalty, affection, sloppy kisses and a best mate who will happily follow you just about anywhere.
Wally may take a little time to let you into his world, but once youâre in, youâre in for good.
