About Clarence
Clarence may be a little unsure of people at first, but there's one very reliable way to start making friends with him: bring snacks.
This handsome ginger boy has found shelter life quite overwhelming, and when he first arrived he was tense, shaky and constantly looking for a way out. With time, though, he has started showing us that there is a much softer side underneath all that uncertainty.
Food has been a really useful bridge for Clarence. He'll happily come forward for creamy treats, meow when he knows something tasty is coming and allow gentle pats while he eats. More recently, he has started accepting touch even after the treats are finished, including leaning into scratches and allowing pats from a hand. Those little changes are a really encouraging sign that his confidence is growing.
Clarence still prefers people to take things slowly and let him decide when he is ready. He may back away if he feels unsure, but with a calm approach, a predictable routine and plenty of positive experiences, he has already shown that he can relax and engage more. A quiet home where he can settle without pressure would give him the best chance to keep building on that progress.
Clarence is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment.
