About Sarge
SARGE – BIG, HAPPY & FULL OF LIFE 🐾
Meet Sarge, our big, happy-go-lucky German Shepherd who approaches life with enthusiasm and is always ready for some fun!
Sarge is a playful boy who absolutely loves his toys and enjoys having something to keep him entertained. He has a cheerful, outgoing personality and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a larger Shepherd with plenty of character.
Sarge also enjoys the company of other female dogs and is currently spending time with a female German Shepherd called Maple, whose company he thoroughly enjoys. With appropriate introductions, he may be very happy sharing his new home with a compatible female dog.
Sarge is beautifully clean in his kennel. He keeps his sleeping area tidy and, importantly, he doesn't chew or destroy his bedding.
Sarge is an athletic boy, so his new home will need high, secure fencing to keep him safe.
When Sarge first came into our care, he was quite strong on the lead and hadn't yet learnt that a walk doesn't need to involve towing the person on the other end! With daily lead training, however, he is already showing good progress and is learning to slow down, check in with his handler and walk on a loose lead.
His new family will need to continue this training with patience, consistency and positive reinforcement. Sarge is showing us that he is very capable of learning when given clear guidance and the opportunity to practise.
We feel Sarge would thrive with an experienced German Shepherd owner who understands the needs of a large, active dog and will include him as part of their everyday life. He will need regular exercise, continued training, mental stimulation and, of course, plenty of toys!
Sarge has not been tested with small dogs, cats or pocket pets.
Now he just needs a family of his own to continue the journey. ♥️
If you're looking for a handsome, playful German Shepherd with a happy outlook on life, Sarge might just be your boy. 🐾
Sarge is currently available for adoption in NSW, ACT, Queensland and Victoria. If you're interested in making him a cherished member of your family, you'll need to drive with your loved ones to meet him. Should he, for any reason, not be the perfect fit for your family, you would be responsible for either bringing him back to Willow Tree or helping us rehome him from your home.
If you have recently owned a German Shepherd or large breed dog, and understand German Shepherd and think you have the commitment to give him a new home, then please select the "Enquire about Sarge" and we will send you an application form or go to our website and complete the application form.

Adoption details
We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.
We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn't successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.
All our dogs are ready to go to their new home, so when you enquire about a dog you must be in a position to take them into your home. We are unable to hold a dog while you fix your fences or go on holiday, etc.
The successful candidate who adopts one of our dogs is provided with an information kit, ongoing support, training and advice on all aspects of feeding, training and general assistance to ensure both the new owner and our rescued dog settle into their home.
Post Adoption Life: With all dog it is important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these dogs have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours and reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to three months to properly decompress from post-shelter life and a lot of behaviours and quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind and are patient.
