About Bear
Bear is a lovely 6 year old pedigree German Shepherd who is now looking for a new home due to his owner now travelling more for work and a family member being allergic to his coat.
Bear is currently living with two small children and is great with them. He is looking for a loving family who will make him an integral part of their lives and give him companionship.
Bear is currently living with another dog, so may be suitable to go to a home with another dog his size as a companion. He hasn't been tested with small dogs, cats or pocket pets.
Like most German Shepherds, Bear wants to be part of his human family and should live inside with his family when they are home. He is looking for a home where he will receive plenty of companionship, guidance and interaction rather than being left on his own for long periods.
Bear needs an experienced German Shepherd owner who understands the breed and is prepared to provide him with structure, clear boundaries and consistent guidance. With the right person by his side, Odin has the potential to develop into a confident, well-mannered and devoted companion.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long and is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Bear is currently available for adoption in NSW, ACT, Queensland and Victoria. If you're interested in making him a cherished member of your family, you'll need to drive with your loved ones to meet him. Should he, for any reason, not be the perfect fit for your family, you would be responsible for either bringing him back to Sydney or helping us rehome him from your home.
If you have recently owned a German Shepherd or large breed dog, and understand German Shepherd and think you have the commitment to give him a new home, then please select the "Enquire about Bear" and we will send you an application form or go to our website and complete the application form.

Adoption details
We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.
We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn't successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.
All our dogs are ready to go to their new home, so when you enquire about a dog you must be in a position to take them into your home. We are unable to hold a dog while you fix your fences or go on holiday, etc.
The successful candidate who adopts one of our dogs is provided with an information kit, ongoing support, training and advice on all aspects of feeding, training and general assistance to ensure both the new owner and our rescued dog settle into their home.
Post Adoption Life: With all dog it is important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these dogs have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours and reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to three months to properly decompress from post-shelter life and a lot of behaviours and quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind and are patient.
