Date of Birth: 01/04/2026
Breed: DSH
Colour: Ginger & White
Location: Lower Mitcham
Custard is a little bit weird, wonderfully lovable and completely confident that being quirky is a perfectly respectable way to go through life. 😂💛
This gorgeous ginger and white girl has a very unique look - those big, wide-open eyes give her a permanently surprised expression, as though she's just discovered something fascinating. And considering her history, she has every reason to have a little character!
Custard came into care as a tiny baby after being found on a worksite. It was immediately clear that something was unusual about her eyes. She was born with a congenital abnormality which malformed eyelids, also causing her eyelashes to grow downwards and irritate her eyes. She underwent surgery to make her comfortable and, despite missing most of her upper eyelids, she appears to have no loss of vision.
Her unusual appearance certainly hasn't slowed her down. Custard is a sweet, confident and very playful girl who loves playing with the big boy cats, although she does have one important rule: playful is good, rough and teasing is not. She absolutely adores her Labrador friend and loves both playing and cuddling with her, so a cat-savvy dog could be a wonderful companion.
She's also good with respectful children who are happy to play with her gently. Custard must be strictly indoors, and her new family will need to continue her daily lubricating eye drops to keep her eyes comfortable.
One final warning for her future foster family: Custard sleeps with her eyes open. This has caused her previous foster carer several completely unnecessary heart attacks. 😂
She's a wonderfully quirky, sweet girl who deserves a home that sees her unusual appearance for exactly what it is - just another part of the very special little cat that she is. ❤️
People describe me as: Confident, friendly, playful, happy
How am I with dogs? I love dogs, especially my Labrador friend!
How am I with cats? I love playing with other cats, as long as they keep play gentle.
How am I with kids? I'm good with respectful, playful kids.
My purrfect home is: A loving, strictly indoor home where I can be myself, enjoy plenty of playtime and have someone happy to continue my daily eye care.
Medical Note
Custard was determined to have likely suffered from congenital microphthalmia, with absence and buckling of the upper eyelids causing irritation and abnormal eyelash angulation towards the eye. Surgery was performed to make her more comfortable. She is missing most of her upper eyelids, but there appears to be no vision loss. Her third eyelids and tear-producing glands remain intact and are not affected by the congenital abnormalities or surgery. Custard requires daily lubricating eye drops to keep her eyes comfortable and must be kept strictly indoors.
Custard's adoption fee is $140 which includes desexing, microchipping, parasite prevention, and initial F3 vaccination.
