About Winston
Winston is a gorgeous, affectionate boy looking for a home where he can enjoy the important things in life: cosy naps, tasty snacks, leisurely adventures and being wherever his favourite humans happen to be.
At home, Winston is a devoted little shadow. He loves having the freedom to potter around the house, snooze somewhere comfortable and follow his people from room to room just to make sure he isn't missing anything important.
But don't let his couch potato credentials fool you! Winston is always happy to dust off his adventure shoes for a trip to the beach, a wander along the creek, a road trip or even a weekend brunch with his humans.
He's clever, food motivated and enjoys learning new things, particularly when praise and snacks are involved. He already knows some cues and would love a family who enjoys keeping his clever brain ticking.
When it comes to other dogs, Winston is more of a polite acquaintance than the life of the dog park. He's happy to have a sniff and then get back to doing his own thing.
Winston would thrive in a calm home with people who enjoy affection and companionship while also understanding that dogs sometimes need their own space.
He's looking for a home with adults or dog-savvy teenagers, where everyone can respect his boundaries, particularly when he's resting.
Winston has previously shown that he can become uncomfortable when his space isn't respected, particularly around very young children. For this reason, a home with babies, toddlers or young children won't be suitable for him. His new family will be provided with his full behavioural history and plenty of opportunity to discuss his needs with our team.
Winston isn't asking for a complicated life.
Give him somewhere comfy to snooze, people to adore, respectful handling, tasty treats and an occasional adventure, and you've pretty much discovered his recipe for happiness.
If your idea of the perfect dog is an affectionate companion who'll happily join you for a beach adventure before heading home to claim his favourite spot on the couch, Winston would love to meet you
Medical notes
Winston has recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and is currently receiving medication. His dosage is still being adjusted, with follow-up blood testing underway to establish the correct ongoing dose. Once stabilised, his new family will need to continue his medication and veterinary monitoring, including blood testing as recommended by their veterinarian.
He also has a dental procedure booked for 6 November, and there have been some concerns about possible spinal discomfort that his new family should continue discussing with their veterinarian.
Adoption details
Winston is being rehomed through Second Chance Animal Rescue's Owner Assisted Rehoming Program. This means Winston is currently living with his owners while we support them in finding the right new home for him.
When you submit an adoption application, our team will review your application and forward suitable applications to Winston's owners. They will then contact potential adopters to have a chat, answer questions about Winston and arrange a meet and greet if they feel your home may be a good match.
As Winston's current family know him best, they are actively involved in choosing his new home, with support and guidance from the SCAR team throughout the process.
Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption, and you may not be contacted if your home isn't considered the right match for Winston.
Our goal is to make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone involved, especially Winston, and to find him a home where he can happily settle in for the next chapter of his life.
