Meet Mama Maya

Maya is a 3-year-old Chinese Shar Pei, and she's officially handing in her resignation. After raising more litters than any dog her age should have to, she's done with the whole "responsibility" thing. Her retirement plan is simple: a soft couch, a quiet house, and people who come home to her. That's it. That's the list.

Make no mistake, Maya is a professional couch potato. She's not looking for a jogging buddy or a wrestling partner. She has a full schedule of napping, accepting pats, and eating treats, and she'd prefer you didn't try to squeeze fetch into it. She gets along well with other dogs and cats, but she treats them like housemates rather than friends: cordial, civil, and absolutely not interested in your zoomies. She likes her space, and when she's had enough attention she'll sigh, relocate, and resume napping elsewhere.

But here's the thing about Maya. When her people walk through the door, the sleepy retiree vanishes and her whole back end goes into full wiggle mode, wrinkles and all. She doesn't hand out that kind of welcome to just anyone. Maya is not a "loves everybody" dog. She's a "loves you" dog, and once you're in, you're in for good.

What Maya's looking for:

- A quiet home, either as the only dog or with another low-energy companion who respects nap time
- Adults or teens only (she hasn't been assessed with young children)
- Cats welcome, as long as they're not expecting a playmate
- A patient person. Strangers still make her nervous, and new places can throw her off. She walks well on lead but does best with a calm handler who lets her sniff, pause, and decide things are okay in her own time

Maya has spent three years giving everything to everyone else. She'd like a turn now. If you've got a quiet home and a spare spot on the couch, she's already picked her side of it.
