🐾 Meet Buddy — 14-week-old German Shorthaired Pointer

Hi, I’m Buddy! 🤎

I’m a gorgeous 14-week-old German Shorthaired Pointer boy, and if my brother Gazza is the calmer one of the litter, I’m the more confident one.

I’m a happy, outgoing little guy who is keen to investigate what’s happening around me. I’m affectionate and people-focused, but I’ve also got that lovely confidence that makes me ready to get involved and explore.

I’m currently living in foster care with multiple dogs, so I’m growing up around plenty of canine company. I’m also crate trained and toilet trained, giving me some excellent foundations for such a young puppy.

But there is something very important we want Buddy’s future family to understand.

🧠 Buddy isn’t just a gorgeous puppy — he’s a GSP

German Shorthaired Pointers are extremely intelligent, active working dogs. That confidence and curiosity Buddy is already showing are wonderful traits, but they need to be channelled appropriately as he grows.

A backyard and a daily walk aren’t going to be enough.

Buddy needs people who want to train their dog, engage his brain and involve him in their life. He could thrive with activities such as hiking, running, scent work, retrieving, obedience, dog sports and adventures with his family.

Mental enrichment will be every bit as important as physical exercise. He’ll also need to learn that incredibly important skill for an active working breed — how to switch off and settle.

The aim isn’t to create a dog who needs hours of increasingly intense exercise every day. It’s to raise a dog who knows how to work, think, engage and then relax.

🏡 We will be particular about Buddy’s home

We aren’t looking for the application that simply tells us all the right things.

We’re looking for a lifestyle that demonstrates Buddy’s needs can realistically be met.

We want to understand what your normal life actually looks like: your previous experience with dogs, what happens on an ordinary weekday, how long Buddy would routinely be alone, what you currently do with your dogs and what activities Buddy would genuinely be included in.

We’ll also want applicants to understand what they’re signing up for when this adorable little puppy becomes a teenage GSP with confidence, intelligence and energy to spare.

Previous GSP ownership isn’t essential. However, a genuine understanding of intelligent, active working breeds — and a realistic plan for raising one — is important.

A large property alone isn’t enough. Buddy doesn’t simply need somewhere to run. He needs people who will interact with him, teach him, challenge his brain and make him part of their lives.

His confidence is something we want his new family to develop and channel, not suppress. With appropriate training, boundaries, socialisation and enrichment, Buddy has the foundations to become an absolutely brilliant dog.
