Cupcake

There are good girls, and then there is Cupcake, the goodest of the good girls.

Cupcake is the sweetest snuggle bug. She is the most gentle, loving, easy going dog and she has an incredibly calming presence about her.

Cupcake is a total lovebug. She gets along brilliantly with other dogs (she prefers dogs smaller than her) but what she really adores is cats. Her best friend currently is a 4-month-old kitten! She is great with gentle kids but be warned, if anyone sits down, particularly on the floor, she will be in your lap so fast that you won’t even know what has happened and you could be there for hours!

Cupcake has a lot of the typical Bulldog traits. She will have a big drink and wipe her mouth dry…….on you. Her favourite place is on the couch, and she loves air conditioning. Cupcake snores, she farts (or lord does she fart) and she is the best companion dog that you would hope for.

Cupcake loves fruit. Like LOVES fruit. It is her favourite. Apple, pear, melon, it doesn’t matter, she just really enjoys fruit. She travels well in the car and she enjoys going for a gentle walk. She will even play a short game of fetch!

Let’s be honest, Cupcake is built for comfort, not speed. With this in mind, we are going to be starting the search for her ideal home, BUT Cupcake does have a luxating patella (loose kneecap).

Cupcake has been to see an orthoepic specialist and yes, Cupcake does have a grade 2 luxating patella but here’s the thing. She has no pain, no arthritis and no crepitus (grinding). At almost 6 years old, this is highly unusual. Her other joints are fine, she is just a Bulldog, and they are a bit lax.

The specialist then gave us a bit of a dilemma. Yes, he could certainly operate on her patella but in doing so, he would cause trauma to a joint that actually has none. He would cause arthritis and pain, rather than alleviate it. By cutting into her knee, he would cause a raft of issues that are just not there.

So, with careful consultation with the specialist, we have decided that surgery is not in Cupcakes best interest at this time. Let’s face it, it isn’t as though she is an athlete who is going to be running marathons, she is a Bulldog who’s biggest daily achievement is hopping on and off the couch.

Cupcake tolerates short walks, but she gets worn out quickly. If pushed to keep going, she will lay down and refuse to move. She does very brief zoomies when excited but she is definitely a low energy kind of gal.

Cupcake loves humans of all ages. She is great company and is well behaved. If you are considering a cat safe dog for your family, Cupcake could be your girl!
