Meet Sultan!

Sultan is a gorgeous 2-year-old boy who is discovering just how wonderful life can be.

He is a fun, active and playful little guy with a big personality and a very sweet heart. Sultan absolutely LOVES his toys and balls, enjoys spending time with his people and is fantastic in the car. Water, however, is definitely not his thing!

Sultan has had a bit of a rocky start to life, and he is still learning to trust and understand affection. Watching his confidence grow has been incredibly special. He is now happily sleeping on the bed with his foster carer and is beginning to seek out affection himself. Even better, he has started giving little kisses in return!

Having previous dog experience would be a wonderful bonus for Sultan’s new family, but more importantly, they need to be willing to understand his quirks, recognise his triggers and learn how to help him when he becomes overwhelmed.

Sultan is wonderfully gentle when taking food and has lovely manners around his meals. He is also toilet trained and has recently learnt how to use a doggy door another little milestone for this clever boy!

Sultan’s Home

Sultan is looking for a family who will give him time, patience, consistency and plenty of love while he continues to grow in confidence.

He would love to be the only pet in the home, where he can have his people all to himself and doesn’t have to navigate other animals. He would suit an active family who are home a lot, enjoy having their dog involved in family life and understand that some dogs need a little extra support while they learn to regulate their emotions.

Older, dog-savvy children around 8+ years may be suitable, provided they are calm, respectful and understand how to interact appropriately with Sultan.

His new family should ideally have some experience with dogs, or be very willing to learn and understand Sultan’s individual needs. The most important thing is having someone who can remain calm, consistent and confident while helping him through the moments he finds difficult.

Sultan can become overwhelmed by certain situations, including doors opening and closing and loud equipment such as vacuums and lawnmowers. When he becomes overwhelmed or very excited, he can sometimes mouth hands or feet when seeking affection and needs help to settle himself. He can also be reactive towards larger dogs.

With calm handling, consistency and an understanding of his triggers, Sultan is continuing to make progress every day.

Sultan’s Health

Sultan has a corkscrew tail and a skin condition that will require lifelong management, which he is currently doing really well with.

He has recently recovered from desexing and full BOAS surgery

The lining inside his ear is also thickened and he is currently receiving monthly ear drops.

Sultan Doesn’t Need a Perfect Home. He Needs the Right Home

A home where someone will celebrate his little wins, give him time to build trust, keep life calm and predictable when he needs it, and show him that people can be trusted.

Because underneath everything, Sultan is a sweet, playful young boy who is learning how wonderful it feels to be loved.
Sweet and playful – Loves toys and balls, enjoys his people and is fantastic in the car.
Growing in confidence – He is learning to trust, seek affection and even give little kisses.
Great manners – Toilet trained, gentle when taking food and has learnt to use a doggy door.
Only pet home – He would love to have his people all to himself without other animals.
Patient, understanding family – He needs a calm home that can support him through his triggers and help him continue to thrive

He is in care in Rutherford, NSW, and is not available for adoption interstate. His adoption fee is $1000 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, and microchipped.
