Donut

Sweet little Donut came into care from a place where he was living with multiple dogs but had very limited human interaction. Donut is still adjusting to life as a normal doggie and will take some time to settle into his new home.

 

To set Donut up for success, it will be best to start his new life small. E.g. setting up a crate and play pen area for him to free roam/ retreat to at his own pace. Allowing free access in the home may be too overwhelming to begin with so it recommended to gradually allow access to the rest of the house. He can get spooked easily by loud noise and sudden movement, often retreating to small, dark areas when overwhelmed.

 

Initially Donut can be worried around people that he doesn't know so it is recommend sitting down on the floor to be at his level when trying to build a bond with him. Once he starts to warm up, he enjoys gentle affection and lots of yummy chicken treats and does the biggest zoomies!

 

Does not seem overly interested in toys at this stage as this is likely something he is not used to, so may need to be taught how to play! Has been fussy with food while in shelter. Recommend offering wet/dry food for meals. 

 

Would best suit a quiet, adult only home. Ideally keep guest visitation to a minimum while he settles in and adjust to his new environment and routine.

 

Donut is currently in foster care where he has been learning how to walk on a harness and lead and figuring out how to thrive in a suburban lifestyle, and is currently just learning to walk in the backyard only at the moment.

Due to not having access to humans consistently, Donut will likely experience challenges with sharing and would prefer being a single dog, but if being adopted with another dog he would be suited to a social, gentle small breed friend that will help him gain further confidence in this big, wide world. Must meet other dogs at time of adoption to ensure both dogs are a good match.
