Piper is a sweet, affectionate girl with a playful personality and a love of sniffy adventures, squeaky toys, catching treats mid-air and staying close to her humans. She’s clever, entertaining and full of character, making every day with her a little more fun.

Piper would thrive in a loving home where she can enjoy regular walks, plenty of enrichment, cosy cuddles and patient, positive guidance. Her ideal adopter will appreciate her playful nature, enjoy spending time with her and be ready to help her continue building confidence and learning at her own pace.

Piper loves walks and stopping to sniff everything along the way. She is a little investigative reporter who can spend quite some time checking an interesting scent before happily moving on.
She enjoys catching treats, tossing and attacking squeaky toys, dinner, pats and cuddles. She is also very fond of a good snooze and is an enthusiastic little snorer.
Animal social skills
Piper has experienced horses, cows, sheep, lambs, wallabies, rabbits, ducks, birds and other dogs.
She is highly interested in animals while walking and has a strong prey drive. Sheep, lambs, wallabies, rabbits and ducks are especially exciting, and she would likely chase smaller animals if given the opportunity. She should not be trusted off lead in unfenced areas.
Piper has only interacted with other dogs on lead. She can be uncomfortable when larger dogs posture towards her, particularly cattle-, sheep- or husky-type dogs, and may growl and lunge if she feels threatened. However, she can also settle beautifully when given space and allowed to approach at her own pace.
Piper has had walks with a large Groodle and Labradors. Piper can initially be a little apprehensive but once she had space and time to investigate and after a quick bum sniff, she settles and happily toddle along for a walk
With continued positive experiences and appropriate socialisation, Piper should be able to build her confidence around other dogs.
Interaction with people
Piper is a friendly, affectionate little dog who genuinely loves people. She enjoys pats and attention and is especially enthusiastic when greeting her humans.
She can be an energetic greeter, jumping up and down like a little spring and sometimes standing on her hind legs while dancing for attention. Food can make her even more excited.
Piper likes to get close and sniff people’s faces but does not tend to lick. She is very gentle when taking food from a person’s hand.
She has seen children but has not had enough controlled interaction with young children to assess her confidently. She is best suited to a lovely quiet home where her routine is predictable
Independence
Piper copes well when left alone for shorter periods. She has been left both inside and outside and has generally waited patiently for her foster carer to return.
If she has inside access she is content to sleep on her mat or couch and snoozes her time away while you are out.
She is also an excellent traveller. Secured with a dog seat belt in the back seat, Piper has completed a four-hour trip to Bright and back. She settles, snoozes or watches out the window and shows no obvious signs of anxiety in the car.
Inside the home
Piper is a lovely companion who enjoys being involved with her people. She gets very excited about coming back inside after a walk.
She likes sitting on the back of the sofa to keep an eye on the driveway and will alert her people when delivery drivers arrive.
Piper is generally well behaved indoors and has excellent toilet habits. She is happy relaxing around the home.
She does tend to investigate anything interesting on the ground and is enthusiastic about food, so continued boundaries and supervision will help her learn what is and is not hers to eat.
Grooming
Piper is easy to bathe and would benefit from a sensitive, fragrance-free oatmeal shampoo, as she can experience itchy skin and chew her feet.
She appears sensitive to grass and may have hay fever, which has responded to Telfast according to her foster carer and uses this intermittently
She also has an enthusiastic relationship with smelly things and will happily roll in duck or other animal poo if given the opportunity!

Piper is smart, learns quickly and genuinely wants to please. She responds well to praise and positive reinforcement.
She knows how to sit, although excitement can override her manners, particularly around food. When highly excited, she can become bouncy.
She will benefit from continued positive training, particularly around greetings, food manners and walking.
On lead, Piper can weave, become distracted by interesting smells and occasionally step towards the road. Continued loose-lead and road-safety training will therefore be important.
Sleep
Piper sleeps beautifully through the night without needing to go outside.
She loves a cosy bed and blankets and is also happy sleeping on her human’s bed. She enjoys burrowing under blankets and can sleep with her head completely covered.
Piper absolutely loves food and treats!
Piper is exceptionally good at catching treats and has a cute habit of snapping her front teeth when she knows food is nearby.
Her new family will need to continue working on calm behaviour around food and prevent her from helping herself to things she finds on walks or in the garden.
Piper loves walks and is capable of enjoying long outings.
She particularly enjoys sniffing and exploring, so she would suit people who like getting outdoors and giving their dog plenty of time to investigate the world.
Because of her strong prey drive, she is not currently suitable for off-lead freedom in unfenced areas. Rabbits, foxes and other interesting scents are simply too tempting!
With continued training, Piper should become an even better walking companion. She is not bothered by bicycles, cars, trucks, trains or motorbikes passing by.
Piper enjoys playing with her toys. She can at times become obsessed with certain toys and will guard them so a new family will need to be aware of this.
Ideal home
Piper is looking for a loving home where she can be a big part of her people’s lives.
She would suit someone who is around regularly and enjoys having their dog involved in everyday life. A calm, predictable home without too much chaos would be ideal, along with people who understand that Piper can become very excited and at times possessive of certain objects.
A home with adults only who will understand her gentle nature
Her new family should enjoy walking and be willing to continue her training and socialisation positively.
Piper has so much love to give and is an incredibly companionable little dog. Once she feels safe and settled, she has the potential to be a wonderful, affectionate and entertaining family member.
Clever, curious, affectionate and full of personality, Piper will make a wonderful addition to the right home.
