Baguette

Baguette is the last of our French Litter, born in care to Bess, a petite black barb Kelpie, with a Border Collie dad. She was always a confident, clever and independent little pup, but at around 12 weeks old her story took an unexpected turn which delayed her being able to find her family but she is now ready to bounce into the next chapter and find her forever home 🥰

Baguette is an absolutely delightful little dog. She's funny, cheeky, playful and fabulously entertaining. She has a gentle personality, loves her toys and can happily invent her own games. She's the sort of dog who makes you smile multiple times a day simply by existing.

She's also incredibly affectionate. Baguette doesn't just like her person, she absolutely adores them. Once she's chosen you, she wants to shadow everything you're doing, sit on your feet while you do it and curl up in your lap the second you sit down. She's happiest tucked up against you and is one of those genuinely lovely, devoted little dogs who makes it very easy to become completely smitten with her.

Baguette's medical history: Shortly after receiving a new flea/worm treatment Baguette developed severe cluster seizures. Her vet's working diagnosis was an adverse neurological reaction, and she required Keppra and phenobarbital to bring them under control. Thankfully, the seizures have now stopped completely. Baguette has been weaned off all medication and currently remains seizure-free.

We're hopeful this was a one-off event and that Baguette has a normal, healthy future ahead of her by simply avoiding that particular class of parasite preventative but we can't guarantee she will never experience seizures again. For that reason, Baguette will be placed on a foster-to-adopt arrangement initially. We want to give her more time seizure-free and medication-free before finalising her adoption, while allowing her to get on with the rather important business of finding and bonding with her forever family.

Baguette is active and extremely intelligent, but she's also sensitive. After everything her little brain has been through, she's come out the other side a little bit unsure of herself. She is easily spooked and can quickly go from confident and cheeky to shy and nervous when overwhelmed. She'll need someone who is happy to introduce her to the world gradually and help her grow in confidence rather than rush to push her into stressful situations.

She is very eager to please. She has good recall and will sit for treats but hasn't had lead training yet, so there's plenty still to learn together.

She would be happiest as the only dog in her home. Baguette is very attached to her human and would much prefer not to share their attention with another dog. She can also be protective of her food around dogs, so we think she'll be happiest and most relaxed having her people and her dinner all to herself. She has lived with cats and enjoys their company, although her working dog genes sometimes result in overly enthusiastic attempts to play with or herd them. She responds well when told "leave it".

Baguette has been through a lot for such a young dog, but her medical history really isn't what defines her. She's affectionate, hilarious, clever, playful, endlessly entertaining and just genuinely lovely company. She's got a few quirks, a slightly unusual start to life and a future we can't predict with absolute certainty... but one thing's for sure, whoever ends up being Baguette's person is going to be very, very well loved!
