❤️🐾 SHADOW — FROM A SCARED LITTLE DOG TO A GENTLEMAN WHO HAS LEARNED HOW GOOD LIFE CAN BE 🐾❤️

When Shadow arrived at the council pound at 7 years old, he was scared.
Really scared.
He was a tiny 3.5kg Miniature Pinscher who seemed completely overwhelmed by the world around him.

We were told his family could no longer care for him and that he had lived with a cat. That was all we knew.

At the pound, Shadow was so frightened that staff couldn't even put a collar around his neck. He was extremely sensitive about his face and neck being touched, and everything about the noisy, unfamiliar environment seemed too much for him.

And then he came into our care.
❤️ And something beautiful happened.
Shadow slowly started discovering that hands can be gentle.
That a collar doesn't have to be scary.
That people can be kind.
That walks can be about sniffing and exploring instead of speed-walking to get home.
That toys are actually FUN. 😂
That tummy scratches are pretty fantastic.
That sometimes the best part of the day is curling up under a blanket with your person and having a very important nap.

And that perhaps... life isn't so frightening after all.

Today, Shadow will nudge your hand with his little nose when he wants affection. He LOVES ear scratchies and tummy rubs. He's affectionate, cheeky, clever and incredibly food motivated — although he does eat like he's worried someone might take his dinner away, so a slow feeder is definitely his friend! 😂
✅️Crate Trained
✅️House trained & toilet trained
✅️Good with harness and collar and leash
✅️Good tolerant at the vet with his general check up, eventhough not a fan of being touched around the face.
✅️Knows how to be funny & Playful
✅️Big loving ❤️ will give you kisses
✅️A Gentleman , no resource guarding or jealous or possessive behavior. Not destructive or dominant man.

✅️Mixed diet of dry and wet premium food and loves his bully stick , kong, etc as his treats *VERY food motivated*
✅️Incredibly smart 👌 😍

He loves his people.
He enjoys a daily walk, some playtime and training, and then he's perfectly happy to curl up and sleep.
He even has two little Chihuahua friends who sometimes convince him to play chasey around the table before everyone collapses on the couch for a rest.

It's honestly the cutest thing. ❤️

🐾 BUT SHADOW STILL NEEDS SOMEONE SPECIAL.

Shadow can feel overwhelmed to other bigger dogs *this is him saying he isn't feeling comfortable when they get too close in public. So it is important to expose him to other known dogs that are calm well mannered & balanced and most importantly same /similar size , so he doesn't feel overwhelmed.

He doesn't need someone who will punish him for being uncomfortable.
He needs someone who understands him and his preferences.
Someone who notices his body language.
Someone who is happy to create distance when he needs it.
Someone who will advocate for him rather than putting him in situations he's not ready for.
Someone who understands that confidence isn't built overnight.
And someone who will continue the beautiful work his foster family has started.

Because look at how far this little boy has already come. ❤️

We don't know if Shadow had ever really experienced the world before coming into our care. We're not sure if he had ever been taken for walks. We're not sure how much he'd travelled in a car.
We're not sure whether anyone had ever given him toys to play with. And we certainly don't know what happened in his past that made being touched around his face and neck so frightening.

But we do know that Shadow has changed.🥰💪❤️❤️

He has gone from being overwhelmed outside, pulling on his lead and rushing through his walks......to stopping to sniff.
Taking little breaks.Exploring.
Enjoying the world around him.
And trusting his people.

❤️ Now he needs someone to take him the rest of the way.

🏡 SHADOW'S DREAM HOME
We're looking for someone who:
🐾 Has experience with small dogs
🐾 Ideally has had Miniature Pinschers or Chihuahuas
🐾 📝Understands their breed specific traits & needs.
🐾 Is home more often than not with active lifestyle to take Shadow for adventures , exploring the world together.
🐾 Will continue with his structure boundaries and reward-based training
🐾 Can give him time to settle and build healthy trust
🐾 Will respect his boundaries
🐾 Will choose quieter walking routes and times when things get too much for Shadow.
🐾 Will advocate for him when he's uncomfortable
🐾 Can provide structure, enrichment, affection and LOTS of cuddles
❤️Must have lots of comfy blankets for him to snuggle and hide 😍🥰

🐾 Another similar size mature friendly female dog as a playful companion IS A DREAM COME TRUE For Shadow we truly believe another well matched dog in the house will be so good for Shadow.

🐾 And most importantly... wants to make Shadow a permanent part of the family.

Shadow doesn't need a perfect home.
He needs a patient home.
A safe home. A home that understands that sometimes the smallest dogs have the biggest stories.
A home that looks at a little dog who is still learning about the world and says:

"That's okay, Shadow. We'll learn it together." ❤️
He has already worked so hard.
He never asked to be homeless.
He never asked to be frightened.
He never asked for the experiences that made him wary of the world.
But despite everything, he has chosen to trust again.

Now we want to find the person who will show him that home really can mean forever. 🏡❤️
