💙 FOSTER OR FOSTER TO ADOPT – MEET TAMA 💙

Tama is a gorgeous 3-year-old Great Dane cross — although with that beautiful big head and soulful face, we suspect there may be a little Mastiff in the mix too. 🐾

Sadly, Tama came into the shelter as a stray and was never reclaimed. Now he needs something very simple, but incredibly important: time, patience, reassurance and someone willing to give him the chance to feel safe again.

Tama is an absolute sweetheart with the people he trusts. He loves the company of the shelter staff, is eager to please and is one very clever boy.

He already knows:

🐾 Wait for his food
🐾 Lay down
🐾 Spin
🐾 Come around
🐾 Shake

…and he is toilet trained too!

Tama is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, health checked and up to date with his flea, tick and worming treatments.

So why does he need rescue and a foster-to-adopt home?

Tama is currently very uncomfortable around men.

During his time in care he reacted strongly to a male vet, which prompted further behavioural observation with a male ranger. Initially, with the security of a barrier between them, Tama barked, snarled and became very fixated.

But once Tama was brought out on lead and the ranger calmly offered him a treat, he settled remarkably quickly.

That little moment tells us a lot.

Tama isn’t a dog who needs to be written off or rushed. He needs someone who understands that fear and uncertainty can look big in a big dog, and that trust sometimes needs to be earned slowly.

A pound environment simply cannot provide the gradual, positive exposure and reassurance Tama needs.

We are looking for someone who will give Tama plenty of TLC and follow the 3 x 3 x 3 rule:

✨ 3 days to decompress
✨ 3 weeks to learn his new routine and begin feeling safe
✨ 3 months to truly settle, trust and understand that he is home

No expectations.
No rushing him.
No forcing interactions.

Just consistency, kindness, boundaries and time.

Tama does appear to be dog social, although he can be a little socially awkward when first meeting dogs and may look to them for reassurance. A calm, socially confident resident dog could potentially be a lovely influence for him, subject of course to careful introductions.

🏡 Tama’s ideal home

Because Tama is a big, powerful boy who is still learning that the world is safe, we are looking for experienced, confident dog people who understand canine body language, decompression and the importance of allowing a dog to progress at his own pace.

Any children in the home will need to be dog-savvy and aged 14+.

His new family will need to be comfortable managing introductions carefully, particularly with men, and committed to building his confidence through calm, positive experiences rather than pushing him before he is ready.

Most importantly, they need to understand that the dog you meet on Day 1 is rarely the dog you have at Month 3.

Underneath Tama’s uncertainty is a clever, affectionate, people-focused boy who desperately wants to get things right.

He just needs someone willing to show him that the world — including the men in it — doesn’t have to be frightening.

Sometimes rescue isn’t about finding the “perfect” dog.

Sometimes it’s about giving a beautiful dog the safety, patience and understanding he needs to become the dog he was always meant to be. 💙🐾
