Meet Pumpkin – a handsome fellow and a typical Ginger in every possible way! He is busy, boisterous, playful, inquisitive, a little bit naughty and has absolutely no understanding of personal space. If Pumpkin loves you, he wants to be right there with you… preferably as close as physically possible!
Pumpkin loves to love and, just as importantly, loves to be loved. Attention is high on his list of necessities, and he doesn’t cope particularly well with being left on his own for long periods. His perfect home will have a few family members around to share the cuddles, playtime and attention so there is almost always someone available for Pumpkin duty.
He would also love a feline friend – although any potential companion should be prepared to be thoroughly smothered with affection! Pumpkin has plenty of energy and will need lots of interactive play, enrichment and interesting things to keep his clever mind and busy body occupied.
Keeping Pumpkin entertained is important because, if you don’t provide the fun, he is more than capable of creating his own… and his idea of entertainment may involve things you would rather he left alone! If you’re looking for a loving, hilarious, slightly mischievous whirlwind who will make himself a very big part of your family, Pumpkin is ready to move in.

I would definitely recommend him for a house with another cat – he really enjoyed when we had Ginger (the foster kitten) and having her to interact with was good.
When he’s all alone, he really wants to be with someone – held, patted, carried. With another cat, he has someone to play with, chase, groom, and snuggle – and of course, he’s still happy to do all that with his human(s) too! Since he needs so much interaction and play, another cat helps him burn some of that social energy.
He really likes to be picked up and held – if meowing for attention, pick him up and carry him around like a baby and he’s happy. If you sit still for long, he will want to be in your lap. He loves to headbunt and lick you – he’s especially fond of licking faces, which we had to gently redirect him from. He likes to sleep in bed with his humans, ideally directly on top of them, although he worked out to sleep near our feet. I would not recommend he is left with babies or small children as there’s a
chance he would smother them.
He talks constantly – he will walk around the house trilling, will meow for attention, will grumble if his human is out of visual contact, will trill during play. He trills even when he’s happy and getting patted. He’s probably the chattiest cat we’ve ever fostered. He would be terrible at hide and seek, as he is never quiet unless snoozing.
He’s also very smart – he generally responds correctly to commands like “no” or “come here”. He’s pretty much a 2-year-old toddler in the body of a cat.
He would be great for someone who wants a cuddly, affectionate cat – he’s definitely not one of those ‘don’t touch me, don’t look for me’ sort of cats!

Adoption details
Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
