Satin Senna and Friend Fluffy

Just like people need calcium to strengthen their bones, so do guinea pigs. Hyperparathyroidism - how’s that for a mouthful - is when the body makes too much of the parathyroid hormone, and causes calcium to be leached from teeth and bones. In guinea pigs, this condition is known as Satin Syndrome.

Satin Syndrome, also called Fibrous Osteodystrophy - mouthful! = is more likely to be found in piggies with coat type known as Satin. Though other coat types look very similar, the fur of a true Satin piggy looks flossy and like spun glass in the sunlight.
As a Satin, Senna is looking for a home where his people will keep an eye out for signs of lethargy, weakness, or disinterest in eating, to ensure a proactive approach to his genetic predisposition to Satin Syndrome.
