Tolstoy is a quiet little soul who is still learning that humans and indoor life can be pretty wonderful things.

Having started life as part of a large cat colony, Tolstoy is understandably cautious and can be quite shy. She often prefers to lurk in the shadows and observe the world from a safe distance, and she can be a little more hissy when she’s feeling unsure. But behind that cautious exterior is a curious girl who is slowly, but surely, finding her confidence.

Tolstoy does enjoy getting out and exploring, and she’s beginning to show some lovely signs that she wants to be closer to her humans. She has recently started climbing onto the couch and, even more excitingly, trying to stay near her foster carer. These little moments might seem small, but for Tolstoy they are a big deal and they show us that she isn’t uninterested in people; she’s simply taking her time learning to trust them.

Her colony mate Bronte has also been a wonderful influence. Bronte’s calm and affectionate nature gives Tolstoy some reassuring behavioural cues, and it’s lovely to see Tolstoy taking confidence from her friend.

Tolstoy may not be the cat who rushes over to greet you or immediately asks for pats. Instead, she’s the kind of girl who quietly works her way into your heart. With patience, understanding and a safe environment, we’re confident she will continue to grow.
