Jalebee – Adventure buddy, couch companion with amazing personality!

We don’t know much about Jalebee’s life before foster care, but she has blossomed since being given the chance to feel safe, loved and included. Now a trained indoor dog, she is happiest being close to her people and being part of family life. She would not suit a home where she is expected to spend long periods outside without company.

She is an incredibly smart, affectionate girl. She loves sitting on the sofa, resting her head on a pillow or armrest while watching us go about our day. She will happily curl up beside you, climb onto your lap for cuddles and is always ready for hugs and good belly rubs. Jalebee needs daily physical and mental stimulation. With her needs met, she settles well and is happy to relax and sleep during the day. She would be very well suited to suburban or town living. She could also enjoy life on a larger property or acreage, but she is not being advertised as a working Kelpie and would not be expected to work with livestock.

Recall is still a work in progress and secure fencing would be important for her safety. Jalebee loves chasing and catching a ball and gets very excited about the game! She is still learning to bring the ball all the way back and drop it for you, so her "drop" command is a work in progress. She already knows to sit, lay down and paw. Jalebee is still getting used to walking on lead and is continuing to build her confidence with it.

Jalebee could potentially suit a single person, couple or family with kids who are active and enjoy walking, hiking, trekking, camping and adventures. Ideally, someone who is home for much of the day, especially during her first few weeks while she settles into her new home. She would benefit from a couple of walks a day, along with puzzle toys, lick mats, Kongs, sniffing, training sessions and some games to keep her clever Kelpie brain engaged. Jalebee travels well in the car.

As an indoor dog, Jalebee is toilet trained and can hold on until she is taken outside. She sleeps beautifully through the night, on her bed or on the couch, and is learning to confidently use a pet door. She can be left alone for a few hours. When her people leave, she may bark for a few seconds, but she settles herself and is able to relax. Jalebee is naturally alert and will let you know when someone knocks at the door or enters the house. She can also react to the sound of a car door outside.

However, once she realizes a visitor is friendly and receives a few pats, she is very happy to welcome them. She absolutely loves children and gets very excited when she sees them. She can be quite jumpy because she wants to get close, put her paws over their shoulders and shower them with kisses! A home with older children, such as secondary-school-aged kids, would likely be the better fit. Once she takes her time to settle, she will give you her whole heart.
