River

Meet River, a lovely kelpie girl of uncertain age who has a sweet and gentle nature.

River is a well-mannered girl with a fantastic off-switch, who behaves beautifully in the house. She’s shy at first, but once she trusts you, she adores ear and butt scratches.

River would make a fantastic farm companion. She’s an easy dog to have around, and loves to be by your side, helping with farm chores – which mostly involves her snoozing under a nearby bush. She has no concerns about machinery noises and is good around sheep.

This gorgeous girl has had a hard life – she arrived in foster care in terrible condition, heavily pregnant, frightened, stressed, exhausted and sad. This has left her with worn down teeth (2 had to come out, but the rest are not causing her any pain), and poor eyesight.

She’s still learning to trust, and gets easily overwhelmed. Although she has made great progress while in foster care, now showing little sparks of joy, she still has a lot of healing to do.

She gets all her confidence from other dogs, and will need a home with at least one other friendly dog to help her come out of her shell. Although she mostly just co-exists with other dogs, she enjoys the occasional game of bitey face, and fully lights up when other dogs start running and barking!

River is looking for patient humans who have a kind heart and will give her the time and space she needs to trust. She might take some time to come out of her shell, but once she does, you will have a little shadow by your side who will give you her whole heart. She's not suited to a home with young kids, who would be too overwhelming.

She will need a rural home, and secure fences to keep her safe in the early days – but they don’t need to be high, as she doesn’t jump over fences. She's not suited to a home with free-range chooks, but leaves penned chooks alone.
