🐾 Meet Harvey 🐾

Harvey is a lovely young boy who has already come a long way in confidence and is now showing just how much personality he has to offer. He is affectionate, playful and social with people and other dogs, and has a real zest for life typical of an adolescent pup.

Harvey enjoys his walks and is walking quite well on lead. However, when he gets excited, particularly when he sees another dog, he can twist, turn and spring around very quickly, so he needs to be walked on a secure harness rather than a standard collar, as he is very good at slipping out of collars. He is an active boy who loves to play and would enjoy a home where he can be part of the action, with plenty of opportunities for exercise, training and mental stimulation. He is also very fond of his toys, especially soft cuddly toys and his beloved chicken, and loves a good game of tug. Once he's comfortable with you, he'll happily flop down for a tummy rub and soak up the attention.

Harvey is house trained and has previously been able to settle at home while his people are at work. He enjoys spending time outside exploring the garden and is currently continuing to work on his crate training and basic commands. He also has a funny habit of collecting household "treasures" and taking them back to his crate — shoes, socks, doorstops and anything else he decides belongs in his collection!

Car travel is still something Harvey is learning to feel confident about, so his new family will need to continue building this up gradually with positive experiences.

Harvey has recently shown that he has a very strong interest in chasing cats. His previous adopters made careful, gradual attempts to introduce him to their resident cat, including separation, pet-gate introductions, lead work and reward-based training. Despite this, Harvey became highly excited around the cat, chasing and pinning him and on one occasion nipping him hard enough to make him yelp. This was not considered true aggression, but his level of excitement and chase drive was understandably very frightening for the cat. Harvey therefore needs a cat-free home. His behaviour around cats may improve with maturity and training, but there is no guarantee that he will ever be reliable around them, particularly if a cat runs.

Harvey has been described as friendly and social with dogs, both large and small, and has shown some submissive behaviour when meeting other dogs. Given how much he enjoys playing, he may thrive with a friendly, playful canine companion, provided introductions are carefully managed and the dogs are well matched.

Harvey is still a young dog learning how to navigate the world, and his new family will need to continue his training, provide appropriate outlets for his energy and help him develop the impulse control and maturity that will come with time. In return, they'll have a sweet, affectionate and entertaining young dog who is ready to show them just how much he has to offer.
