Named for her gorgeous golden coat, Gold Spot is equal parts clever, high energy, affectionate and absolutely hilarious. She loves people, loves other dogs, and has never met a bare toe she didn’t think needed a little nibble.

Gold Spot is fully house trained, crate trained and walks beautifully on a slip lead. She is incredibly intelligent, learns quickly and is very food motivated, which makes training her a lot of fun. She is also wonderfully affectionate and has a very funny personality. If you tell Gold Spot off, don’t be surprised if she responds by pawing at you - as if she’d like to formally discuss the matter.

Gold Spot is a very high-energy dog and has true kelpie drive. Her foster mum believes she is likely from working stock, and she certainly acts like it! She was surrendered after developing a penchant for chasing sheep, so her new family will need to understand and respect her natural herding instincts. She will need a home with secure, high fencing to keep her safe, or a country home that is willing to thoughtfully channel and hone those natural herding instincts rather than allowing her to practise them on neighbourhood livestock.

Gold Spot is also firmly in her teenage years, which means she has recently discovered the joys of landscape gardening. She has already had a dig in the veggie patch and, given the opportunity, may decide your garden needs a little remodelling. This is very typical of a high-energy kelpie puppy, and her new family will need to be prepared for the occasional bit of garden renovation. She will likely grow out of this with guidance and age.

Gold Spot is not a set-and-forget dog. She needs training, structure and clear, consistent boundaries. She is currently learning that being inside means settling and relaxing, and she is making good progress. She is also learning that alone time is for switching off rather than finding something entertaining to do. She does not bark when left alone in the backyard and is being taught that time spent by herself is an opportunity to relax and settle.

Gold Spot would absolutely love a home that wants to do things with her. Agility would be a fantastic outlet for her, and her foster mum already brings her along to agility training, where she gets to watch and learn. She has the intelligence, athleticism and enthusiasm to excel at activities like agility, obedience, trick training or other structured dog sports.

She is also very much a dog who needs to burn calories as well as brainpower. Licky toys and Kongs alone aren't going to tire this girl out. Gold Spot is likely to try to herd other dogs, and uncontrolled environments don't provide the kind of structured outlet she needs. Her ideal home will be committed to regular walks, running, training and activities that give her kelpie brain something worthwhile to do.

Her recall is currently a work in progress and is coming along nicely. Her new family will need to continue building this skill and should not assume she is ready for off-leash freedom simply because she is responsive in a controlled environment.

Despite all that energy, Gold Spot is a wonderfully affectionate and rewarding dog. She loves being around her people and other dogs, learns incredibly quickly and has the kind of personality that will keep you laughing. She is still a young dog who is learning how to navigate the world, and with the right guidance, she has the potential to become an amazing companion.

Gold Spot isn't looking for someone who simply wants a dog to hang out with—she's looking for someone who wants a dog to do life with. If you're ready to put in the time, training and exercise that a young girl needs, you'll get an incredibly smart, funny, loving and enthusiastic little teammate in return.
