Rhubarb

Rhubarb is approaching her double digits, and after the year she's had, she's ready to trade in stray-cat survival mode for a life of luxury. When she first arrived in our care, she wasn't in the best condition. This sweet girl had been living as a stray and was carrying a painful collar wound that required surgical repair. On top of that, her dental disease was significant enough to require a major dental procedure. While many cats would be forgiven for holding a grudge after all of that, Rhubarb seems to have responded by deciding that people are wonderful and should probably spend most of their time fussing over her.

What makes Rhubarb so special is not just what she's been through, but how she's come through it. Despite finding herself alone, injured, and in need of extensive veterinary treatment, she has remained affectionate, confident, and incredibly loving. She greets people with warmth, enjoys attention, and carries herself with the quiet confidence of a cat who truly believes every person she meets has arrived specifically to admire her. Honestly, after getting to know her, it's difficult to argue with her logic.

As an older girl, Rhubarb has developed a healthy appreciation for the finer things in life. She is no longer interested in unnecessary drama, chaotic life choices, or proving herself to anyone. She would much prefer a comfortable couch, a warm patch of sunlight, reliable meal service, and a family who appreciates the art of a good afternoon nap. She's reached the stage of life where comfort is king, and frankly, she's earned it. After surviving as a stray and recovering from surgery and dental treatment, Rhubarb believes that being spoiled is no longer a privilege. It is a requirement.

There is something wonderfully honest about Rhubarb. She likes people, so she seeks them out. She wants affection, so she asks for it. She doesn't play hard to get and she isn't trying to maintain an air of mystery. Instead, she spends her days being a genuinely lovely companion who seems determined to make friends wherever she goes. If you've ever met a retired grandmother whose favourite hobbies include feeding people, sitting in the best chair in the house, and gently judging everyone's life choices, you'll already have a pretty good understanding of Rhubarb's personality.

Senior cats are often overlooked in shelters, and that feels especially unfair when it comes to cats like Rhubarb. Kittens are exciting, but Rhubarb offers something different. She already knows who she is. Her personality is fully formed, her affectionate nature shines through immediately, and she has reached that wonderful age where companionship matters far more than chaos. She doesn't need someone to teach her how to be a good cat. She already is one.
