Meet Misty,
Misty might be a little shy and unsure when you first meet her, but give this lovely girl some time and there’s a very different cat waiting underneath. She likes to quietly work out who you are before letting her guard down, but once she decides you’re safe, out comes the smoochy, affectionate Misty — complete with a very impressive little purring motor.
Chin scratches are particularly effective at bringing out her affectionate side. Once that motor gets going, Misty will happily smooch against your hand, her toys, the wall… really, anything within reach is fair game when she’s feeling happy! She can be picked up while she’s enjoying some pats, although she prefers to keep cuddles relatively brief before politely requesting that all four paws be returned to solid ground. Given the choice between treats and affection, Misty will usually take the pats — although she certainly won’t turn down a snack on the side.
Misty also appears to have a quiet little playful streak that she prefers to keep mostly to herself. Small, soft toys have caught her attention when she thinks nobody is watching, and as she becomes more confident in a home, we may see more of that playful side emerge. She has excellent litter tray manners and could potentially enjoy sharing her home with a friendly, social cat who can complement her quieter personality and perhaps help show her that there’s nothing to worry about.
A calm, quieter home would give Misty the best opportunity to settle in and show just how affectionate she can be. She’d be best suited to an experienced cat owner, or simply someone patient and understanding enough to let her build trust at her own pace, with children aged 10+ who can respect when she needs some space. Misty may make you wait a little while before you meet her smoochy side, but once the chin scratches start, the purring motor switches on and she begins rubbing herself against everything in sight, you’ll know you’ve officially made it into Misty’s circle of trust.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
