🐾 Meet Nesta – Professional Blanket Burrower, Ball Addict & Personal Space Invader 😂
If you’ve ever thought, “You know what my life is missing? A tiny, long-bodied dictator who will live under my blankets, steal my personal space and take ball games VERY seriously…” then congratulations — Nesta has been waiting for you! 😂
Nesta came into Paw Prints Canine Rescue as a private surrender through no fault of his own, and the rescue has completed all of his veterinary work. He is now ready to find his forever family.
Nesta is an 8 years and 11 months old Dachshund x with a huge personality packed into a conveniently sausage-shaped body. He is energetic, affectionate, clever, a little bit bossy and approximately 97% convinced the entire world revolves around him and his ball. The remaining 3% is reserved for cuddles. ❤️
And when it comes to cuddles, Nesta certainly doesn’t believe in politely sitting beside you.
Oh no.
Nesta believes personal space is a ridiculous human concept. If someone is lying down, he will happily climb onto their chest, shove his head into their face or neck and make himself comfortable. Sitting on the couch under a blanket? Excellent. Nesta will simply burrow underneath it and install himself beside you.
Your blanket is now his blanket. Your couch is his couch. Your personal space has officially been cancelled. 😂
🎾 BALL. BALL? BALLLLLLL!
Nesta absolutely LOVES playing fetch and is extremely motivated by balls, treats and praise.
But mostly…
BALLS.
Nesta can become overprotective of his precious ball and may try to nip if someone attempts to take it before His Royal Sausageness has decided the game is over. 😂 Because of this, his new family will need to understand that ball play requires sensible management, using swapping and trading rather than simply grabbing his prized possession.
For this reason, we would prefer a home without small children.
Nesta can initially be a little unsure when people arrive and may bark, but if given the space to make his own decisions, he will approach when he is ready.
Then he’ll climb onto your lap.
And that’s it.
You’ve been chosen. Good luck getting him off. 😂
Nesta has been happy around people and has allowed children to pat him while out walking, but because of his ball obsession, a home without young children will be the better fit for him.
🐕 What about other dogs?
Nesta currently lives with a German Shepherd and has coped really well. With a slow and sensible introduction, he has also happily lived with another small breed dog without any issues.
He could potentially live with another compatible dog, or he would be happy as an only dog provided his humans are around to keep him company and play with him.
He’ll probably want to be the boss though.
Because Dachshund. 😂
Interestingly, Nesta can get a little mouthy towards other dogs while walking — particularly since discovering that having a German Shepherd beside him apparently makes him 10 feet tall and bulletproof. 😂
When properly introduced, however, he has walked nicely alongside another dog, including a Chihuahua.
Nesta enjoys his walks and has happily managed around 6km. He has good recall and generally walks well on lead, although he can pull a little and may react when other dogs pass.
🐈 Cats?
Absolutely…
NOT. 😂
Nesta has been cat tested and believes the cat should be chased.
The cat presumably has some opinions about this arrangement.
Despite being told off — and apparently understanding perfectly well that chasing the cat is frowned upon — Nesta remains completely committed to his life’s work.
So we’re going to save everyone’s sanity and say NO CATS PLEASE. 😂
Other small animals haven’t been tested.
🏠 The important stuff
Nesta is toilet trained. His foster home doesn’t have a doggy door, so that is unknown, and his crate training hasn’t been tested.
At bedtime, however, Nesta has already developed an excellent system:
Sleep in the human’s bed. Burrow under the blanket. Become an immovable sausage-shaped hot-water bottle.
Done. 😂
Nesta is energetic, loves getting out and about, absolutely adores fetch and lights up when he is praised. Underneath all that cheek, confidence and Dachshund determination, he is an absolute sweetheart.
His foster carer says he will creep into a family’s heart incredibly quickly.
We suspect he’ll creep into their bed even faster. ❤️
So, if you’re looking for a quiet little ornament who will sit politely in the corner and respect your boundaries…
Nesta is absolutely not your dog. 😂
But if you’re looking for a funny, cuddly, energetic little character who will make you laugh, keep you moving, commandeer your blankets, occupy your lap and enthusiastically remind you that BALL IS LIFE…

Adoption details
Paw Prints Canine Rescue is a non for profit dog rescue located in Southeast Queensland.
All our dogs leave our care with full vet work (up-to-date vaccinated, microchipped, desexed, heart worm and intestinal wormed and flea treated).
Please note - They will not leave for their new homes until they are 12 weeks of age and have been desexed, micro-chipped and vaccinated up to date.
Please note - we are not a pound or have kennels - all our dogs stay in foster carers homes and therefore dogs are not able to be simply viewed - only approved applicants will meet the dogs.

Once an adoption enquiry is completed our admin team will assess the application and if successful we will arrange for a meet and greet to be completed. We may also request photos of your yard for consideration of your application. Please note that we will do no more than 3 meet and greets per dog.
Approved applicants will be contacted to arrange a time for a meet & greet via email. You must bring your current dog along to the meeting if you are meeting another dog/puppy, this is to ensure they get along before commencing adoption - proof of your dogs up-to-date vaccination is required before any meet and greet is arranged.
Our adoption fee must be cleared in our bank account before any animal is available for pick up. Please note we bank with ANZ - any other bank may take 48 hours to process the monies.
Paw Prints Canine Rescue has a 10 day trial period – this basically means that if for any reason the adoption does not work out and the dog needs to be returned to us, the adoption fee minus an admin fee (minimum is $250) will be returned to the adoptees via bank transfer within 7 working days.
Please note that if an interstate adoption needs to be returned or regional adoption all transport cost with be paid by the adopter.
Please also note while this can be a very exciting time for everyone, it can also be an overwhelming time for dogs and we ask that you do try and allow your new family member to settle in their new home and adjust
INTERSTATE ADOPTIONS **
Any transport costs are to be paid by the adopting family, however we can assist you in helping with transport to airports etc.

AFTER THE TRIAL PERIOD
After the 10 day trial period is completed Paw Prints Canine will send out all relevant paperwork for your new furbaby via email including the transfer of microchip form.
