Emmylou may be the smallest member of our Coat of Many Colours Litter, but this beautiful little girl has already shown us that size has nothing to do with strength.
She was the tiny pup nobody was sure would survive. As a neonate, Emmylou was taken home by her treating vet, who hand-raised her and gave her the intensive care she needed to give her a fighting chance.
And fight she did.
Emmylou is now thriving. By 11 September she weighed a very healthy 3.5 kgs and has blossomed into a sweet, affectionate little girl who is placid and gentle but still has plenty of puppy playfulness.
She is also absolutely gorgeous, with a striking double mask that gives her a very distinctive little face.
Emmylou belongs to our Coat of Many Colours Litter, named in honour of Dolly Parton’s much-loved song “Coat of Many Colors”. The puppies all have names with a Dolly connection, and Emmylou takes hers from Dolly’s great friend and fellow country music legend, Emmylou Harris. Dolly and Emmylou famously sang together with Linda Ronstadt as the trio behind the celebrated Trio albums.
Her mum, Stella, is a Wolfhound mix, while dad is believed to have been a Dogue de Bordeaux/Mastiff type. Although Emmylou is the smallest of the litter, she is still expected to grow into a medium to large dog.
Like all young puppies, Emmylou will need continued training, socialisation and plenty of involvement in family life. She is looking for a home where she will be loved, included and given every opportunity to grow into the wonderful dog she is already promising to become.
Emmylou will be adopted under ARK’s Deferred Desexing Program. Her adoption fee covers the cost of desexing, subject to terms and conditions. Desexing must be completed by the date specified in her adoption contract or earlier if recommended by the adopter’s vet.
From the tiniest, most vulnerable puppy in the litter to this thriving little sweetheart, Emmylou has already come such a long way.

Adoption details
Dogs:
(1) The first step is to complete the online adoption application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ Please answer all questions and include photos of your yard and fencing.
(2) All applications will be considered by our Adoption Team, following which a "meet and greet" will be offered to the top-ranking applicant.
(3) If the “meet and greet" is successful, the applicant may adopt the dog and take him or her home the same day.
(4) For successful interstate applicants, different arrangements may apply and will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
