🐾 LEON — ASSISTED REHOMING ❤️

Meet Leon — a beautiful 1-year-old Rottweiler boy who, through no fault of his own, is looking for a new family.

Leon is a much-loved boy who has grown up in his current home since he was a puppy. His family adore him, and making the decision to rehome him has absolutely broken their hearts.

💙 Leon is a big cuddle bug.
He loves being close to his people and will happily sleep beside their bed every night. He loves affection, playing with his favourite toys and, perhaps most of all, WATER! The hose is his absolute favourite — in fact, if the hose comes out, Leon needs to come inside because he simply can’t resist joining in! 😂

He is house-trained, crate trained, knows his basic obedience, walks well for the most part and travels calmly in the car. He is also described as calm and affectionate at the vet and loves attention.

Leon has been well loved and his family have worked hard to support him. Following a serious conflict with their other dog, they engaged a behaviourist, separated the dogs for eight weeks, worked on crate and muzzle training and had both dogs checked by their vet for underlying medical causes. Unfortunately, despite a carefully supervised reintroduction, their other dog remained aggressive towards Leon, making it unsafe for them to continue living together.

We want to be completely honest about Leon because finding the right home is more important than finding him a home quickly. ❤️

Leon can be reactive towards unfamiliar dogs when on lead, particularly around his home environment. However, he has successfully stayed at a boarding farm where he lived in a house with multiple unfamiliar dogs and reportedly did extremely well with them. He enjoys playing with other dogs and can be a big, physical player.

Leon does have food-related guarding around other animals and has growled/snapped when another animal has approached his food. He should therefore be fed separately and his food respected.

Leon has also bitten a person on two occasions. One was during an altercation between the two household dogs when his owner was bitten while intervening; the injury was significant and required stitches. The second was a minor redirected bite to a daycare staff member when Leon reacted to another dog through a fence. These incidents need to be taken seriously and any prospective home must understand and be comfortable managing this history.

Leon has also chased livestock and, while at boarding, joined other dogs in chasing a chicken and caught it, causing minor injury. A home without livestock would be preferred.

Leon has never lived with children or cats, so these situations are unknown and would need careful consideration.

What his family wants people to know most of all is that Leon is so much more than the difficult circumstances that have led him here.

He is a character.
He loves his people.
He wants to cuddle.
He wants to play.
He loves the water.
And he is deeply loved.

His family describe him as a dog who will leave a very big hole in their hearts. 💔

Leon is desexed, microchipped and vaccinated. His brand-new crate will go with him to his new home, and his family would dearly love to remain in contact with his new family if possible.

🏡 Leon needs an experienced Rottweiler home who understands large, powerful dogs and is prepared to continue his training and management. His future home will need to be committed to setting him up for success, respecting his boundaries and managing his known triggers responsibly.

This isn’t about finding just anyone for Leon.
It’s about finding the right person — someone who will see the wonderful, goofy, affectionate dog underneath the circumstances and give him the structure, understanding and love he deserves. ❤️
