Ruby - 2 Year Old Kelpie

Meet Ruby ❤️

Ruby is a 2.5-year-old, 16kg red tri Kelpie and a sweet little pocket rocket with a big personality. She is incredibly affectionate with the people she trusts, loves pats and attention, and when she’s happy, her whole little body wiggles with joy. She is full of endless zoomies and is discovering how much fun play can be, with tug and herding games with a soccer ball her favourites.

Ruby has already made wonderful progress in her confidence. She walks well on lead, her recall is coming along nicely, and she is becoming increasingly confident exploring quiet public spaces and nature. It has been amazing watching her discover the world and come out of her shell.

At home, Ruby is toilet trained, crate trained and generally well mannered. She can be quite bouncy when excited but can settle well and generally knows to stay off the furniture — sometimes she just needs a reminder.

Ruby spent the first two and a half years of her life in a backyard, so the wider world is still quite new to her. She can be wary of strangers, unfamiliar environments and other dogs, and needs an understanding owner who is willing to take things slowly while continuing to build her confidence.

Like many Kelpies, Ruby has herding drive and due to lack of socialisation, this can be noticed when she interacts with other dogs. With slow introductions, a patient resident dog with a similar play style would be ideal to help Ruby learn appropriate doggy manners. Ruby may also suit being an only dog in the right home. With continued training, she could also be well suited to dog sports or other activities that give her a job to do.

Ruby needs an experienced working-breed owner who can provide consistent and ongoing training, structure and boundaries as well as plenty of physical and mental enrichment. She would suit an active household or property where she can have plenty of opportunities to run, explore and use her brain.

Ruby would be best suited to a home without children under 8, and with someone who is prepared to be patient, consistent and enjoy watching her confidence grow.

She is in foster care in Mount Hutton, NSW. Her adoption fee is $600 and she will be desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, and microchipped.
