About Bear
Introducing Bear!
Bear is a Shih Tzu x Miniature Wire Haired Dachshund born 14th February 2025.
This gorgeous boy was brought into the facility as an "unknown stray". After some investigating, it was found that he was actually brought into the facility by a very close friend, as his owner was no longer able to care for Bear due to housing issues. Knowing he had done the wrong thing his owner came to collect him. After speaking with this person we became concerned for Bear's future & offered to take him as a surrender, which he gladly did.
Bear's surrender profile states he is an inside dog and is toilet trained to use puppy pads. He travels well in the car, has no food aggression, is friendly with children & adult strangers. He is friendly with other dogs but untested with cats while in his care. It also states that he has dug under fences.
Since being at the facility Bear has been a beautiful boy to care for. He's incredibly friendly, playful, affectionate, cheeky and full of life. He can be excitable at times & will just up for attention. He loves playing with toys, especially his small, squeaky Kong tennis ball.
Bear tested quite well with other dogs. While we only have smaller, male dogs to test with, he was very excited to meet them all & was very enthusiastic during their meets. We believe Bear could be suitable to live with another dog or be the spoilt only "child" at home. If you have a friendly dog at home, we will need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
Bear appeared non-reactive with our facility cat & roosters. We believe he could be suitable to live with small animals if given a slow and controlled introduction to them.
Bear has shown no signs of food aggression since being at the facility, however he has shown some signs of separation anxiety. We believe Bear would be best suited to a home where his owner can be with him more often than not.
Bear would love to be adopted to a home where he is included in your daily activities and is treated as a cherished member of the family.

Bear's adoption fee is $750, and this includes his desexing, vaccination and lifetime registration. Bear is also regularly treated for fleas and worms.
Bear is currently located in East Maitland.

If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
