About Jongkie
Meet Jongkie ❤️
At just 2 years old, Jongkie has already experienced more loss than any dog should. After losing two owners, he came into foster care unsure of the world around him and with very little experience of the big, wide world.
Over the past 3 months, Jongkie has made wonderful progress. He is toilet trained, settling beautifully into home life, and slowly learning that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. He can still be nervous in new situations, but watching his confidence grow has been incredibly rewarding.
Jongkie can get carsick, although this is another area where he is improving with time and patience.
When it comes to other dogs, there is a little more to Jongkie than first meets the eye. On lead, he can be reactive and finds passing unfamiliar dogs quite stressful. However, once he is comfortable and in a home environment, he absolutely loves playing with other dogs and enjoys having canine friends.
Jongkie is also fantastic with cats, so a feline friend isn't a problem for this lovely boy.
Jongkie does seem to feel more comfortable with women, so his new family will need to understand that building a relationship with him may take a little time. Whoever is interested in adopting Jongkie will need to be prepared for multiple meets before he goes home. These meetings are important to allow Jongkie to build trust and become comfortable with his potential new family at his own pace. We want his transition to be as positive and stress-free as possible.
His new home will need to be patient, understanding and committed to continuing the work his foster family has started. Jongkie would benefit enormously from ongoing training and from an adopter who is physically capable of confidently handling him on walks while helping him overcome his uncertainty around other dogs.
Jongkie also has a beautiful, tightly curled coat that requires regular grooming. His curls can become matted very easily, so his new family will need to be prepared to keep up with professional grooming and regular coat care.
He is a young dog who has already been through so much, and he deserves someone who will give him the time and patience he needs to continue blossoming. In return, you'll have the incredible privilege of watching a once-nervous dog discover his confidence and become the happy, loving companion we know he can be.
Jongkie needs someone who will be in his corner for the long haul. If you have patience, kindness and a willingness to continue helping this special boy grow, Jongkie could be the perfect match for you. ❤️
