Henry

Before Henry first arrived at the shelter, someone labelled him "feral."

PLEASE! We couldn't disagree more.

Was he scared? Absolutely. Nervous, unsure, and convinced that people were best observed from a safe distance? Definitely. But feral cats don't slowly come forward for treats, headbutt hands, or secretly crave connection. Henry has never been a cat who didn't want people. He's a cat who isn't quite sure whether it's safe to trust them yet.

Since coming into care, Henry has shown us exactly who he is beneath the fear. A gentle, sensitive boy who desperately wants to be brave. The kind of cat who watches carefully from the back of his enclosure before working up the courage to investigate. The kind of cat who flinches when touched, then moments later leans back in for more because a part of him really wants to believe you're a friend.

Food has helped enormously. Offer Henry a tube treat and suddenly his confidence grows. He'll come forward, focus on the snack, and before long those nervous walls start slipping away. We've watched him go from cautiously eating at a distance to taking treats from our hands, rubbing into us, lifting his tail high and asking for more interaction. Every small moment feels like a victory because you can actually see him learning that people aren't so scary after all.

The thing about Henry is that cats like him are often misunderstood. They're not the flashy, confidence-filled cats who throw themselves into the arms of every visitor. They're the cats people make assumptions about. The cats who get labelled too quickly. The cats who don't always get the opportunity to show who they really are.

But we know Henry.
We know the soft eyes.
We know the little headbutts.
We know the brave cat underneath all that uncertainty.

Every day he pushes himself a little further outside his comfort zone, and every day he proves that there is an amazing companion waiting to emerge. He just needs someone willing to give him the time and patience to get there.

The reality is that cats like Henry don't always get chosen first. They require a little faith, and not everyone is prepared to offer that. But the people who do take a chance on cats like Henry are often rewarded with something incredibly special: a bond that has been earned.

Henry doesn't need someone looking for a perfect cat. He needs someone willing to see past the fear and recognise the beautiful soul underneath. Someone who understands that confidence can grow, trust can be built, and scared cats deserve homes just as much as easy ones do.

We think Henry is worth the effort. In fact, we think he's more than worth it.
