Meet Meringue,
Meringue is a gentle, sweet-natured girl with a soft side that’s well worth taking the time to discover. She can be shy when she first meets you and prefers to quietly take everything in before deciding it’s safe to come out of her shell. Give her a little time and a gentle approach, though, and you’ll soon see her begin to relax, lean into your pats and show just how affectionate she can be!
Once Meringue knows you, she is an absolute sweetheart. She’s easy to pick up and, rather than simply tolerating being held, she’ll actually cuddle herself into your arms and settle in close. While she may be fairly independent as she gets to know you, there’s a wonderfully affectionate little cat underneath that initial shyness — she just needs to feel safe enough to show you.
Meringue hasn’t shown much interest in toys just yet and isn’t particularly food motivated, although she’ll happily accept a tasty treat when offered. For now, building her confidence and getting comfortable with the world around her seems to be much more important. She has good litter tray habits once settled, although having a few trays available when she first arrives home would help her feel comfortable while she adjusts to her new surroundings.
A quieter home with older children would suit Meringue beautifully, giving her the chance to settle in without feeling overwhelmed. Dogs appear to be a little too scary for her, so she’d be happiest in a dog-free home, but she has shown a lovely curiosity towards other cats and was particularly interested in making friends with Burger (no, not a delicious lunch snack, Burger is another resident cat that we have).
Meringue may not show you everything she has to offer on day one, but give this gentle girl the time to trust you and you may just find her curled up in your arms, wondering why she was ever nervous in the first place.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
