Sushi

Sushi has spent around six years knowing the comfort of a home, so finding herself suddenly surrounded by the unfamiliar sights, sounds and people of a shelter has been a huge adjustment.

Sushi came into our care alongside her longtime companion, Tofu. She has always been the more cautious of the two and was known to hide around unfamiliar people even in her previous home, so shelter life has understandably amplified those nerves. Here, Sushi prefers to keep her distance and isn't ready for much physical affection yet. Food, however, is one way to start speaking her language. Even when frightened, she has been brave enough to come forward for tasty treats and eat with people nearby.

Sushi isn't a cat who needs to be pushed into making friends. She needs somewhere peaceful where she can decompress, learn the rhythm of her new home and gradually decide for herself that everything is okay. Her previous life tells us that she can settle into a home environment, and with patient people who celebrate the little wins rather than expecting instant confidence, we hope she can get back to simply enjoying being someone's cat again.

Sushi and Tofu have spent their lives together and were surrendered to us as a bonded pair, so finding a home where they can stay together would be a wonderful outcome. At the same time, we understand that taking home two cats is a big commitment. If adopting them together isn't possible, Sushi can still be considered individually rather than missing her chance to find the right home.

Sushi has mild Grade 1 dental disease and will benefit from regular dental home care to help maintain healthy teeth.
