About Tofu
For most of her life, Tofu has known what it feels like to have a home. Now, suddenly finding herself in a shelter, this gentle girl is understandably wondering what on earth happened to her world.
Tofu came into our care alongside Sushi after spending around six years together in their previous home. Right now, both girls are finding shelter life incredibly overwhelming. Tofu tends to retreat when people approach and isn't ready to seek out affection here just yet. But a shelter only gives us a tiny snapshot of who a cat really is, and her previous family described a very different Tofu at home. Once comfortable with her people, she was known to enjoy cuddling up on a lap, eating her favourite food and relaxing in familiar surroundings.
After spending so many years in a home, we can only imagine how strange this sudden change must feel. Tofu would benefit from a quieter environment where she can have a safe space of her own, settle into a predictable routine and get to know her new people without being rushed. She may need patience at first, but we hope that with time and security, more of the affectionate homebody described by her previous family will begin to reappear.
Tofu and Sushi have spent their lives together and were surrendered to us as a bonded pair, so we would absolutely love to see them head into their next home together if the right family can welcome two cats. However, we understand that adopting two cats isn't possible for everyone, and we don't want that to stand in the way of either girl finding a loving home. Tofu can still be considered for adoption on her own with a family prepared to give her the gentle transition she needs.
Tofu has mild Grade 1 dental disease and will benefit from regular dental home care to help maintain healthy teeth.
Tofu is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment. If you can open your heart and home to Tofu - or if you're a rescue group able to help - please reach out to us at adoptions@dogshome.com
