Meet Taz - Your Little Jack Russell-in-Training!

Hi, I'm Taz, a handsome 1 year and 1 month old tan and white Jack Russell Terrier, and I'm looking for someone very special to help me discover just how wonderful the world can be.

I'll be honest - I'm a little shy when we first meet. New people and unfamiliar handling can make me feel unsure, so I might hide under my bed, keep my distance or retreat if there's a sudden noise or movement. But underneath that cautious exterior is a sweet young dog who is already showing us that he can learn to trust!

Once I know you're one of my people, you'll see a completely different Taz. I can run towards my trusted humans with a rapidly wagging tail and even a few enthusiastic jumps! I enjoy spending time with people I know and, when I'm feeling comfortable, I'll happily seek out interaction and companionship.

I've also been making some lovely progress recently. I've spent time meeting unfamiliar people and have been able to interact appropriately. I can still be tense and move away when someone tries to handle me, but importantly, I have not shown aggression when I'm worried. I just need people to understand that confidence takes time.

I'm looking for an adults only home where my new family will be patient, calm and happy to let me set the pace. I'll need gradual, positive confidence building with unfamiliar people, lots of encouragement and plenty of opportunities to discover that new people can mean good things.

I may also be suitable to live with another dog, provided we're introduced carefully and the match is right.

Because I'm still learning to trust, my ideal first journey home would be in a carrier, rather than asking me to cope with lots of unfamiliar handling straight away. Starting my new life gently will give me the best possible chance to settle in successfully.

My friends at the shelter will also support my new family with recommended trainers who can help me continue building confidence using positive, reward based methods. They'll even check in with us after I go home!

I really think my best chance to shine is away from the shelter environment, where I can relax, learn my new routine and start forming a special bond with my people.

I might not be the Jack Russell who rushes straight up to greet everyone - but give me time, patience and kindness, and I'll show you the very happy little dog hiding underneath my nerves.
