Sponge

Sponge may think hiding is the safest option at first, but put out a gentle hand and this sweet girl has a hard time resisting a good head scratch.

Found as a stray with no identification, Sponge has found the shelter environment a little overwhelming. She likes having somewhere tucked away where she can feel secure and can quickly retreat when something startles her. But underneath that cautious exterior is a girl who clearly wants affection. Give her a calm approach and a little reassurance, and Sponge will come forward for pats, lean into your hand and happily soak up scratches around her head and neck.

What's especially lovely about Sponge is how quickly she can find her courage again. Even after being startled and running back to hide, she has been able to recover, come forward again and continue interacting. She's been seen giving head bumps, lifting her tail and even doing a little bit of kneading when she's feeling comfortable. Those small moments tell us there's a very sweet, affectionate cat waiting to feel completely safe.

Sponge would love a calm home with patient people who will give her somewhere cosy to retreat to and let her decide when she's ready to come out. With time, gentle attention and plenty of her favourite scratches, we think her affectionate side will have more and more opportunities to shine.

Sponge has mild Grade 1 dental disease and will benefit from regular dental home care to help maintain healthy teeth.
