About Gypsy
Gypsy is a beautiful girl who was found as a stray and made her way to a Sydney shelter before coming into our care.
She is a very social dog who loves people and enjoys being around her humans. Gypsy does have some separation anxiety, so she is looking for a home where someone is around for much of the day and can help her feel safe and secure.
Due to Gypsy’s leg condition, she will need a quieter home where she can enjoy life at her own pace without being expected to undertake strenuous exercise. She may be suitable to live with a calm, older male German Shepherd or another large-breed dog, subject to a suitable introduction.
Gypsy will do best with an experienced German Shepherd or large-breed owner who understands the breed and is prepared to provide her with the structure, consistency and clear boundaries she needs. Her new family will also need to be committed to monitoring her mobility and helping her maintain a healthy weight to minimise stress on her joints.
Gypsy is a loving and affectionate girl who has so much to offer and is looking for a special home where she can be loved, supported and allowed to simply enjoy being a dog.

Gypsy is currently available for adoption in NSW, ACT, Queensland and Victoria. If you're interested in making her a cherished member of your family, you'll need to drive with your loved ones to meet her. Should she, for any reason, not be the perfect fit for your family, you would be responsible for either bringing her back to Sydney or helping us rehome him from your home.

Medical notes
Gypsy has suffered an injury to her growth plate, which has resulted in her leg bones growing in an abnormal direction.
X-rays were taken and reviewed by an orthopaedic specialist, who has confirmed that Gypsy has potentially experienced premature closure of the distal ulna growth plates. This has resulted in significant elbow incongruency and osteoarthritis, along with bilateral angular limb deformity.
At this stage, surgery is not required. Gypsy will benefit from ongoing joint support, including glucosamine and chondroitin supplements and fish oil, to help support her joints and mobility.
Pain medication is not currently required but may be used if needed in the future, depending on Gypsy’s comfort and mobility.
Gypsy will be desexed once a new home has been found.

Adoption details

We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.
We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn't successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.
All our dogs are ready to go to their new home, so when you enquire about a dog you must be in a position to take them into your home. We are unable to hold a dog while you fix your fences or go on holiday, etc.
The successful candidate who adopts one of our dogs is provided with an information kit, ongoing support, training and advice on all aspects of feeding, training and general assistance to ensure both the new owner and our rescued dog settle into their home.
