About Dan
Meet Dan the Man: Your Future Loyal Best Friend!
They say good things come to those who wait, and Dan the Man has certainly done his waiting. Through absolutely no fault of his own, this unique and incredibly intelligent "little wolfie" mix has spent the majority of his short life living in a shelter.
Now, he is finally ready to trade his kennel for a couch and find the forever family he truly deserves. Dan is the ultimate sidekick—a true best friend who is loyal to the end. He has a beautiful, soulful way of looking right into your eyes, making you feel like he is truly listening to and understanding every word you say. Despite spending so much of his youth in a shelter, Dan is a remarkably calm and collected boy with a wonderfully balanced personality. He has an active side and loves getting out for walks, runs, and outdoor adventures, but at the end of a busy day, he is quite happy to curl up on the sofa and snooze away.
If you work from home, Dan is the perfect companion; he loves his toys but is just as content to sit quietly by your side while you tick off your to-do list. In fact, his absolute favorite pastime at the shelter has been chilling out on the couch in the staff meeting room, proving just how ready he is for home life. Because the shelter environment is all he has known, Dan will need an experienced and patient handler to help him adjust to the real world. He is already crate trained, which will help with the transition, but his new family should expect to take things slow. This includes car travel, as Dan isn't a fan of the car right now—likely because he associates vehicles with the stress of past moves.
He will need gentle desensitisation with very short, positive trips to build up his confidence, or he may simply prefer to be a homebody. Out and about, Dan is dog-selective. While he enjoys a good play with some dogs—usually submissive females—he does not get along with other male dogs, particularly dominant ones, and can become quite reactive.
His ideal owners will be confident managing this on walks and guiding him through his reactions with patience and positive reinforcement.
Dan has so much love, personality, and potential packed into his sweet soul. He has spent his whole life waiting for the moment he finally gets to walk through your front door. If you have the experience, the patience, and a couch with Dan’s name on it, he is ready to be your loyal companion for life.
