About Shimmer
Meet Shimmer, a remarkable feline with a mission. He's not your average cuddle-seeking kitty, but rather a unique cat with a strong sense of purpose. Shimmer thrives in environments where he can channel his natural instincts and has a passion for pest control duties on a larger property, making him an ideal candidate for a farm or industrial estate setting.
All he needs is a dry, warm shelter, supplemental food and 6-monthly worm treatments crushed into his food, to treat him for parasites (approx $20).
Shimmer is an independent spirit. Shaped by his early life on the streets, he has learned to coexist with people and other animals but prefers to keep his distance, maintaining his own space.
He remains wary of touch and isn't fond of the more hands-on aspects of care.
Shimmer is accustomed to living with other cats and effortlessly gets along with them. His independent nature makes him a low-maintenance addition to any property, as he doesn't crave constant human attention. His true passion lies in chasing mice, and you can trust him to keep any area free from unwelcome rodent visitors.
For those seeking a dedicated and hardworking cat to enhance their farm or industrial space, Shimmer, is ready to embrace his role with great enthusiasm. He offers companionship to his feline friends, and can also be adopted with another cat suited for barn life. Shimmer would serve as an invaluable asset to your property's upkeep. This natural-born hunter will bring efficiency to your space.
So if you are looking for an agile, healthy lad to help you manage the mouse 🐭 population at your rural or semi rural property? Look no further than Shimmer! He's healthy, vaccinated, desexed & microchipped.

Medical notes
Shimmer was rescued with part of his tail already missing. Initially, it was thought that the remaining portion of his tail may need to be amputated. However, after a course of antibiotics, the area healed well and has left him with a short tail stub. As it is now healthy and causing him no issues, the vet has recommended leaving it as it is to avoid putting Shimmer through unnecessary surgery and further trauma.
Shimmer has also tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). FIV affects a cat’s immune system, but many FIV-positive cats can live long and healthy lives with good nutrition, appropriate veterinary care and prompt treatment of any illness or infection.
FIV is primarily transmitted between cats through deep bite wounds rather than through normal everyday contact. Shimmer has now been desexed, which generally reduces roaming, territorial behaviour and the likelihood of fighting with other male cats; however, the risk of transmission through fighting cannot be completely eliminated.
As Shimmer is unsocialised and we are seeking a suitable barn or working-cat home for him, his new environment should be secure and appropriately managed to minimise roaming and contact or conflict with unfamiliar cats.
