Griffin came to ARK from the pound, so we don’t know very much about his life before he arrived with us. What we do know is that he is a wonderfully friendly, happy young dog who seems to think people — and particularly children — are pretty terrific.

At around five months old, Griffin is still very much a puppy. His foster mum describes him as very friendly, playful and affectionate, and says he absolutely adores kids.

He's eager to please and already knows how to sit, as you can see from the video in the gallery.

He is an enthusiastic, bouncy puppy who still has lessons to learn, and for that reason we think he would be a bit much for toddlers at present. A family with older children who would enjoy his playful nature could be a wonderful fit.

Griffin gets on particularly well with older, well-socialised dogs. In fact, a sensible adult dog who is prepared to show him the ropes could be a great influence on this young fellow and help teach him some of the finer points of canine etiquette.

Griffin currently weighs around 14 kg and is still growing. Based on his present size and build, we expect him to mature into a medium-to-large, fairly tall and athletic dog, probably somewhere around 25–30 kg.

Griffin will need:

✓ Kind, consistent training as he matures
✓ Continued socialisation and exposure to the world
✓ Appropriate exercise for a growing large-breed dog
✓ Secure fencing
✓ A family prepared to guide an enthusiastic adolescent through the next stage of growing up
✓ Ideally, a well-mannered resident dog who can help show him how things are done

A Little Resource Guarding

Griffin has shown a small amount of resource guarding in foster care.

Given that he came to us from the pound and we know nothing about his earlier circumstances, it may simply reflect having previously needed to compete for or protect things that mattered to him. We can’t know for certain.

It is something his new family will need to continue working on calmly and sensibly, using positive training and good management. His foster family is already learning more about him, and we will pass that information on to his adopter.

Deferred Desexing Program

Because Griffin is still a young dog, he is being offered for adoption under ARK’s Deferred Desexing Program.

This means Griffin can join his new family now rather than remaining in foster care until he is old enough to be desexed. His adopter will sign a Deferred Desexing Puppy Adoption Contract agreeing to prevent him from breeding and to have him desexed by the date specified in the contract.

Desexing is covered by Griffin’s adoption fee, subject to the terms and conditions of the Deferred Desexing Program.

Griffin received a C3 vaccination on 26 August 2026 and is microchipped.

He is a lovely, sociable young dog with a lot going for him. He just needs what so many pound puppies need — somebody prepared to take the good raw material and finish the job.

With companionship, boundaries, training and time to mature, we think Griffin has the makings of an absolutely beautiful family dog.
