Leo

There are two sides to Leo: the scared little cat you might see in the shelter, and the cuddly, playful biscuit maker waiting to come home.

Leo found shelter life overwhelming, but foster care gave us the chance to see who he really is when he feels safe. On his very first morning, his foster carer cautiously tried giving him a gentle pat while he was tucked inside his cave. Instead of retreating, Leo pushed his head straight into their hand and started making biscuits! From there, things only got better.

Within a week, Leo was exploring the whole apartment, approaching his foster carer for pats and actively seeking out interaction. He loves leaning into affection, kneading away with his paws and playing with all kinds of toys. His foster carer describes him as cuddly and a "champion biscuit maker," and believes that once he's settled into his new home, there's a wonderful little lap cat waiting to emerge. He can occasionally get a little carried away during pats and give a gentle nip, so giving him a break when he's had enough will help keep everyone happy.

Leo will likely need a quiet, smaller space for his first week or so at home where he can decompress and learn that he's safe. His foster experience has already shown just how much his confidence can grow when he's given that opportunity.

Leo has Grade 2 dental disease that does not currently require surgery, so good dental home care will help look after his teeth. He also has mild luxating patellas, meaning his kneecaps can move out of their normal position. This may contribute to arthritis or mobility problems as he gets older and could require treatment or surgery in the future.
