Meet Coco

Coco is a country girl who came to the big city the hard way. With fly strike on her ears and no idea what to make of traffic, sirens or slamming doors. Watching her adapt to domestic life has been something else.

She's shy when she first meets you. She won't rush over, but give her time and she'll come and say hello in the gentlest way, every person, every time. That timid streak actually works in your favour: Coco is a dog who never pushes boundaries. She'll follow her curiosity, but tell her "no" once and she'll never make that mistake again. She learns fast.

She's toilet trained and has been really good at letting me know when she needs to go out, she hasn't had an accident in a long time. That said, if she's inside for a long stretch without a chance to get out, there's still the odd chance of one. Give her regular yard access and she's got it nailed.

What stands out most, though, is her loyalty. Coco is one loyal queen. Once she's decided you're her safe space, she won't leave your side, and she's not motivated by treats or toys. She's motivated by love. Hold out a treat in one hand and an empty hand for a pat, and she'll choose the pat every time.

Her ideal home is a calm one. Someone who wants a lap dog to cuddle all day, with a securely fenced backyard where she can have a run around and show off her playful side. She'd be perfectly content as a homebody. Lead walking is still new and a little scary, she does walk, but you're encouraging her along rather than her pulling ahead. So if you want a walking buddy, you'd be taking that journey at her pace.

With new people she can be shy. Not a hint of aggression, just cautious, but give her half an hour and she'll be snuggled up next to a stranger.

She's still processing a whole new world, and that'll take a bit more time. But watching a little dog who's only known a rough start find her curiosity, her trust and her playful side is a pretty special thing to be part of. That's the opportunity you'd be taking on with this little pocket rocket.

She is in care in Newcastle, NSW. Her adoption fee is $800 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, and microchipped.
