Bickie

Sweet little Bickie came into care from a hoarding situation where she was living with multiple dogs but had very limited human interaction. Bickie is still adjusting to life as a normal doggie and will take some time to settle into her new home.

To set Bickie up for success, it will be best to start her new life small. E.g. setting up a crate and play pen area for her to free roam/ retreat at her own pace. Allowing free access in the home may be too overwhelming to begin with so it recommended to gradually allow access to the rest of the house. 

Initially Bickie can be quite flighty and avoidant around people that she doesn't know, but once she starts to warm up she enjoys gentle affection and lots of yummy chicken treats. She spooks easily by loud noise and sudden movement, often retreating to small, dark areas when overwhelmed. She can sometimes be worried by people walking around her as well, so it is recommend to sit down on the floor to be at her level when trying to build a bond with her.

Does not seem overly interested in toys at this stage as this is likely something she is not used to, so may need to be taught how to play! Has been fussy with food while in shelter. Recommend offering wet/ dry food for meals. 

Adopter will need to be patient and respectful of Bickie as she settles and grows confidence. Recommend working slowly on touch consent training in the home, using roast chicken or another high value treat as rewards between touch. 

Would best suit a quiet, adult only home. Ideally keep guest visitation to a minimum while they settle in and adjust to their new environment.

Bickie has spent some time in a foster home where she has been learning how to walk on a lead.

Would be suited to have a social, gentle small breed friend that will help her gain confidence. Must meet other dogs at time of adoption to ensure both dogs are a good match.
