About Alaska
Meet Alaska 🐾
SPECIAL NEEDS – Please read Alaska's profile carefully before applying.
If you're looking for a fun-loving, intelligent companion who wants to be part of everything you do, Alaska could be the perfect match.
This beautiful deaf girl has a confident, affectionate nature and a joyful zest for life. She adores being with her people and naturally looks to them for guidance, making her wonderfully attentive and a delight to train. Bright and eager to learn, she's already showing lovely manners and is picking up new skills with impressive speed.
Although she is deaf, Alaska doesn't let that slow her down. She already understands several cues, including sit, down, stay, come and go to bed, and she's always keen to learn more. Deaf dogs are every bit as capable as hearing dogs, they simply communicate differently, and Alaska is proving just how adaptable and clever they can be.
Alaska is an active girl with plenty of enthusiasm for life. She loves water, enjoys playing fetch, travels well in the car and is happiest when she's out exploring or joining in whatever her family is doing. On walks she naturally stays beside or just behind her handler, checking in regularly, and she's making lovely progress with her lead manners.
She gets along well with other dogs and would love a confident resident playmate who enjoys rough-and-tumble games and can match her energy. Like many young dogs, she's still learning to recognise when another dog has had enough play, so she'll benefit from a canine companion who is patient and socially savvy. She has also been around cats and chickens and has done well with calm, confident animals, but because she has a high prey drive she isn't suited to homes with animals that are likely to run.
Alaska has lived with children and is affectionate with everyone she meets. However, she's still an exuberant youngster who can be quite boisterous when excited, so she'd be better suited to a home with older children who won't be accidentally knocked over.
Like many young, intelligent dogs, Alaska is still learning a few important life skills. While not yet fully toilet trained, she is using the dog door and having fewer and fewer accidents. She finds being left alone difficult, so she'll need a family who can provide plenty of companionship while helping her gradually build confidence and independence. She also resource guards particularly high-value food items around other animals, so this will need sensible ongoing management.
Alaska is looking for an active home where she'll be included in family life, given plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, and appreciated for the clever, affectionate and endlessly entertaining girl she is. In return, she'll reward her new family with unwavering devotion, lots of laughter and a lifetime of adventures.
