Molly is one seriously fluffy little girl — although “little” is unlikely to describe her for very long.

With Cane Corso, Neapolitan Mastiff and Maremma in her breeding, Molly is expected to grow into a large and potentially very large dog, and her new family needs to be prepared for everything that comes with raising a puppy of substantial size.

Molly’s dad is Moose, pictured in her gallery, who weighs 57 kg. Her mum is a Maremma. We don’t have a photo of her, so we’ve included a file photo of Penny, one of ARK’s notable Maremma females, as an example of the breed. Penny weighed about 35 kg.

While we can’t predict Molly’s eventual adult weight with certainty, her breeding and her dad’s size give a pretty good indication that prospective adopters should be prepared for a genuinely large dog.

❤️ With big dogs come big responsibilities

Large dogs are wonderful companions, but their size and strength mean that good training, socialisation and sensible handling are particularly important. The cute puppy who can be scooped up today may eventually be a very substantial adult dog, so we want Molly’s good manners established while she is young.

Previous experience with large or giant-breed dogs will be highly valued, although we will also consider applicants who can demonstrate that they understand what is involved and are genuinely committed to raising her well.

At the moment she is an adorable bundle of fluff, with enormous paws, a soft fuzzy coat and one of those solemn little puppy faces that makes it very difficult to walk past without stopping for a cuddle.

She is still very young, however, and what happens over the coming months will play a major part in the adult dog she becomes.

Molly will need a family committed to giving her a first-class start in life.

✓ Early and ongoing socialisation
✓ Kind, consistent training from puppyhood
✓ Secure fencing appropriate for a large dog
✓ Plenty of companionship and involvement in family life
✓ Age-appropriate exercise while her bones and joints are developing
✓ Calm exposure to different people, dogs, places and experiences
✓ Good manners taught before she becomes considerably bigger
✓ Regular grooming to keep that spectacular fluffy coat in good condition

Her breed mix includes dogs traditionally bred for guarding livestock, property and family, so good socialisation and sensible training will be particularly important. She needs people who understand that a large, powerful adult dog is much easier to live with when the foundations have been laid properly from the beginning.

Molly is not a puppy for someone looking for a small or low-maintenance companion. She is likely to become a substantial dog with a substantial coat — and quite possibly a substantial opinion about life as well.

What she does have is the opportunity to grow into a wonderful companion in the right hands.

❤️ Deferred Desexing Program

Molly is still too young to be desexed and will therefore be adopted under ARK’s Deferred Desexing Program. Desexing is covered by the adoption fee, subject to the terms and conditions of ARK’s Deferred Desexing Puppy Adoption Contract. Her adopter will be required to prevent her from breeding and ensure that she is desexed by the date specified in her adoption contract.

If you have the space, commitment and time to raise a very large puppy properly — and you don’t mind a considerable amount of fluff — Molly may be the girl for you.
