About Florence STA014233
Florence is a very special girl looking for a very special person. Incredibly shy and timid, she has already travelled a long road learning to trust people — and her foster home has shown us just how much love is hiding beneath those nerves.
When Florence first arrived in foster care, she was frightened of almost everything. She would hiss, hide and spend much of her day tucked away in the safety of a small carrier, only venturing out when things were quiet.
What a difference time, patience and kindness have made.
These days Florence happily shares the couch right beside her foster carer, asking for attention and absolutely loving her pats. She's not quite a lap cat yet, but she's getting closer! She's found her voice and will happily let you know when it's time for dinner, enjoys being brushed and is highly food motivated. She also loves to play, whether that's with her person or entertaining herself with her favourite toys. And when it's time to relax, you'll often find her luxuriating on her beloved heat pad.
Florence had a difficult start to life and wasn't socialised with people so she experiences the world a little differently. She still needs safe hiding places and will sometimes choose to sleep in a closet or under the bed rather than out in the open.
Her perfect home is quiet, calm and predictable, with no children or dogs. This also means a home where children aren't regular visitors.
Florence has made wonderful progress in her foster home, but moving again will be a big change and she may initially retreat back into her shell. Her adopter will need to be prepared to give her plenty of time, patience and space without expecting too much too soon.
For the right person, however, Florence will be incredibly rewarding. Imagine being the person who watches her slowly emerge from hiding, learns all her little quirks, earns that first request for a pat and eventually finds her choosing to curl up beside them on the couch.
At heart, Florence is a friendly, affectionate and playful girl. She simply needs someone willing to continue the journey she's already begun.
Florence isn't looking for just any home — she's looking for someone who will give her the time she needs to finally understand that she is safe, loved and home forever.

Adoption details
Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
We will answer any questions you have regarding cat care and help you to obtain any support you may need.
