Meet Brodie 💙

Brodie has grown from a little puppy finding his way in the world into the most confident, happy and outgoing young dog — and what a wonderful character he has become.

Brodie is a gorgeous double merle Border Collie who is deafblind. He may experience the world differently, but spend any time with him and you quickly realise just how capable, clever and adaptable he is.

In fact, give Brodie a new space and it doesn’t take him long at all to map it out. Before you know it, he is confidently making his way around as though he has always been there.

His favourite occupation has to be his morning ritual of hiding things. Shoes and toys are carefully collected one by one, then Brodie will patiently wander around the yard searching for just the right spot to hide each treasure. Apparently, not just anywhere will do!

Brodie thrives on his familiar routines, too. At mealtimes, he will patiently wait in the kitchen while his food is being prepared. Once it’s ready, he knows exactly what to do and confidently makes his way to his bowl to eat. It’s another little glimpse into just how well Brodie understands and navigates his world.

He enjoys his daily walks and seems to approach life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He is always happy to meet new people, explore new places and experience new things. He doesn’t shy away from anything that is new.

At home, Brodie is quite affectionate, playful and now very much part of family life. He enjoys being close to his people and will happily climb onto you — or simply drape himself across you — particularly at night when everyone is relaxing together watching TV.

He is fully toilet trained and sleeps well in his crate overnight. His crate remains a familiar and comfortable space for him, but during the day he is, for the most part, perfectly content to settle and sleep out with the family.

One of the biggest changes we have seen in Brodie is his ability to self-regulate. He has come such a long way. There are still times when he needs some assistance to settle or regulate, and his future family will need to understand his cues and support him when he needs it, but these moments are now much easier for him to navigate.

Brodie is also fantastic with other dogs of all sizes and would absolutely love having another canine friend to share his life, adventures and games with.

Because Brodie is deafblind, communication and consistency will always be important. His family will need to be willing to learn his language and understand the way he experiences his surroundings. But Brodie has already shown just how incredibly smart he is and how quickly he can learn.

His deafblindness is part of Brodie, but it certainly doesn’t define him.

He is confident.
He is outgoing.
He is affectionate.
He is playful.
He is incredibly smart.
And perhaps just a little bit obsessed with hiding your shoes.

Brodie doesn’t need a smaller world because he cannot see or hear it.

He needs a family willing to experience it with him. 💙
