Meet beautiful Rhonda, a gentle, calm and friendly girl with a wonderfully relaxed nature. She is a true couch potato who loves a peaceful home life, playing with her ball and spending time close to the people she trusts.
Rhonda can be very fearful around unfamiliar people and in new situations. We do not know what she experienced before coming into care, so she needs time, patience and space to feel safe. When frightened, her natural response is to move away and find a quiet corner where she can observe from a safe distance.
Once Rhonda realises that she is safe and can trust you, her beautiful personality begins to shine. She becomes incredibly affectionate, seeks out cuddles and happily follows her trusted people around the house.
Energy Level
Rhonda has a low energy level and is happiest in a calm, relaxed environment. She enjoys exploring, sniffing and playing, but she is also very content relaxing at home with her family.
She absolutely loves playing with balls. She retrieves the ball and willingly drops it so that the game can continue.
Training and Home Manners
Rhonda is fully toilet trained and confidently uses the doggy door.
She knows how to sit and wait and has excellent manners around food. She eats calmly and shows no signs of food anxiety or resource guarding.
Rhonda sleeps peacefully through the night in her own raised bed in her foster mum’s bedroom. She is a quiet, easy-going girl who enjoys having a comfortable place close to her people.
Walking on Lead
Rhonda appears to have had little previous lead training and does not yet fully understand what is expected of her during a walk. However, she does not pull and is easy to manage on lead.
She enjoys taking her time to explore and sniff her surroundings. She may initially feel nervous in unfamiliar places, so she will benefit from calm, patient guidance as she continues building her confidence.
Car Travel
Rhonda currently finds travelling in the car stressful, particularly when secured with a standard car restraint.
She is noticeably calmer and more settled when travelling in a suitably sized, securely fastened crate, as the enclosed space appears to help her feel safer. Her future family should continue using a secure crate for car journeys while gradually helping her develop more confidence around travelling.
Good With
Dogs: Rhonda is friendly and comfortable around other dogs. Living with calm, well-balanced dogs in foster care has helped her feel safer and become more confident. She could potentially live with another suitable dog following a successful meet and greet, although having another dog is not essential.
Children: Younger children and their sudden movements can make Rhonda feel frightened. She would be best suited to an adult household or a family with calm, respectful and dog-savvy children aged 12 years or older.
Cats: Untested. Rhonda has not lived with cats while in foster care.
Ideal Home
Rhonda’s ideal family will be patient, gentle and willing to allow her to settle in at her own pace. She should never be pressured to interact with unfamiliar people before she feels ready.
A calm household with a predictable routine will help her feel safe and allow her confidence to continue growing. The presence of a calm and friendly resident dog could help her settle and feel more secure, but it is not a requirement for her adoption.
Rhonda would be perfect for someone looking for a gentle, affectionate and easy-going companion who enjoys both a game of fetch and a relaxing evening on the couch.
Additional Information
Rhonda needs people who can recognise when she is frightened and allow her to retreat without following or pressuring her. If her requests for space are ignored and someone continues trying to touch her, she may give a quiet growl to communicate that she is uncomfortable.
With patience, kindness and a safe environment, Rhonda becomes a wonderfully affectionate and loyal companion who loves staying close to her people.
Rhonda has no known medical conditions and does not require any regular medication.
