About Big Barry
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Big Barry.
Barry is a big, chunky boy with an equally big heart, unfortunately, his confidence has not yet caught up with the size of his body.
At the moment, Barry is feeling a little shut down and is understandably unsure about this whole shelter situation. He's not exactly out here campaigning for Mayor of the Shelter just yet. He's more of a "I will sit quietly over here and observe your nonsense" kind of gentleman.
But once Barry starts feeling comfortable, you get the occasional headbutt of approval, and THAT is when you know you've made it onto the VIP list. Barry is also highly food motivated, which is excellent news because we have discovered his greatest weakness:
TREATS.
Want to make friends with Barry? Treats.
Want Barry to reconsider his opinion of you? Treats.
Want Barry to realise you're actually pretty great? More treats.
Honestly, we're not above bribery here. We call it "relationship building".
Barry is a sweet, chunky boy who is looking for someone who understands that confidence isn't built overnight. He'll need a nice, slow introduction to home life, plenty of patience and a quiet space where he can decompress and figure out that he's gone from shelter resident to homebody.
Once he feels safe, we're hoping that big body comes with an equally big personality, and based on those headbutts, we suspect there's a serious softy hiding in there.
So, if you've always wanted a big cat with a big heart, a big appetite and potentially a big attitude about snacks, Big Barry may be your guy.
He doesn't need you to rush him.
He just needs you to bring the treats, respect his boundaries and give him the time to realise that humans aren't so bad after all.
Big Barry.
Big boy.
Big heart.
Tiny confidence.
Barry is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment. If you can open your heart and home to Barry - or if you're a rescue group able to help - please reach out to us at adoptions@dogshome.com
