Duke and Mack

Meet Mack and Duke, two gorgeous tweenie dachshunds who are looking for their forever home together.

Duke is the ultimate velcro dog. Wherever you go, he wants to be right there with you, and he's incredibly affectionate, expect lots of kisses. He's a little more sensitive to the outside world: noises can spook him on walks and he's wary of strangers he passes, so he'll need a patient owner who lets him build confidence in his own time.

Mack is a big cuddle-bug too, but he's got his own way of telling you when he's happy where he is, he'll growl if he's moved while he's settled and comfy, and if you don't know him it can sound genuinely alarming. We've tested his limits a lot over time and he's never once tried to bite, so we've come to understand it and know exactly where his boundaries are but we won't pretend it isn't startling to someone meeting him for the first time. Once you take the time to learn him, he's happy to be picked up any time and is full of love. He's also just a very vocal boy in general even mid-cuddle he'll let out happy little moans with his tail going a mile a minute.

Together, these two are a package deal in every sense. They're best walked on a dual lead, and when other dogs approach on a walk, their barking and growling can sound quite alarming but we believe this is leash-territorial behaviour, since they're completely different dogs off lead. Let them off in an enclosed space like a dog park and they transform, happily greeting and playing with dogs of every size, with Duke never straying far from Mack's side. They love their toys, especially anything squeaky, though anything fluffy or plush won't survive playtime for long! Get comfy on the couch and you can guarantee both of them will be right on top of you within minutes. They're also the best car passengers you could ask for, curling up together on the back seat for every trip. Bedtime is a dream: tell them it's time for bed and they trot straight into their shared crate together, not a peep until morning even on lazy weekend lie-ins.

A few honest notes for the right home: they're a bit fussy with dry kibble on its own but eat well once it's mixed with wet food, they're fully potty trained (though they won't ask to go out, so a regular schedule works well), and given Mack's reaction to being lifted, this pair isn't suited to a home with young children. We also have a doggy ramp at home for them, but they've never taken to it even with treat training they just jump up and down instead, which works fine with a low couch, but worth knowing if you have taller furniture.

Mack and Duke are affectionate, loyal, and full of personality, they just need someone willing to learn their language. Once you do, you'll have two devoted best friends for life.

Duke and Mack require the following in their new home

- No children under 12 and any teenager in the home will need to have an understanding to not to pick up Mack.
- To have the option of being inside when their owners are home and to sleep over night.
- A secure yard.
- Regular times outside to toilet.
- A home with not too many steps. Ramps or doggy steps for furniture.
